29 light at the end of the tunnel marathon 07/25/10 north bend WA 3:54:31 Marathon 48 12/70 12/44   beautiful day, but warm. stomach a bit iffy - started a bit too fast, paid later.
28 lake youngs ultra 06/12/10 renton WA 4:50 28.8 mi         a nice day out running with friends. last miles were tough - did some walking.
27 first call marathon 01/01/10 bothell-redmond WA 3:59:56 Marathon 253 4/38 4/19   nice small event, great company (ran with may), and great energy out there. just not from me. splits went south during the second half of the race - juuuust squeezed out sub-four.
26 seattle marathon 11/29/09 seattle WA 3:44:41 Marathon 2821       went out a bit too fast, paid for it later. other than some late mile suffering, a very good day. pleased with the results, and enjoyed the time.
25 columbus day marathon 10/10/09 elma WA 3:30:15 Marathon   1/8     a good day running, but I feel disappointed that the course appears to have been short. Took a bit of the shine off of a PR and a good finish.
24 Roots Rock 50k 09/06/09 port gamble WA 5:42:35 50 km   5/16 4/9   braved yellowjackets, lightning, monsoon-like rain - had a blast. no speed records set, but lots of fun.
23 pacific crest trail FA 08/01/09 snoqualmie pass WA 8:06:11 31 mi         long day on the beautiful pacific crest trail. some great lessons learned - all in all a great experience.
22 foot traffic flat marathon 07/04/09 Sauvie Island OR 4:08:31 Marathon 288       Nice race, and a pretty course. Not the smartest race I've ever run. Went out too fast (legs tired during the early miles), and it went down from there. Still - a great way to mark a year since my bike accident, and remember that I spent the previous fourth of July in the neuro ICU at Harborview.
21 light at the end of the tunnel marathon 06/14/09 north bend WA 3:51:48 Marathon 259       great day to run! felt good on the uphill half - kept a steady pace. picked it up on the downhill. nice bunch of folks out there too (race director, volunteers, fellow runners).
20 green river marathon 06/06/09 kent-seattle WA 5:14:38 Marathon         had a great time pacing matt to his first marathon.
19 call of the wild marathon 05/23/09 bothell-redmond WA 3:48:23 Marathon 220 3/23     fun small event along the sammamish river trail. felt good most of the way.
18 tacoma city marathon 05/03/09 tacoma WA 3:47:43 Marathon         beautiful day, and a lot of fun. ran my fastest race in nearly 2.5 years.
17 yakima river canyon marathon 04/04/09 ellensburg-selah WA 4:09:48 Marathon         first marathon back since suffering serious injury in a bicycle accident in july 2008. beautiful day! ran 20 strong miles - that last 10k was a challenge though. great to finish, and enjoyed a nice time throughout.
16 green river marathon 06/07/08 kent-seattle WA 3:50:50 Marathon         Nice, free race put on by Stave Barrick. Great army of volunteers, and a beautiful finish along the Alki waterfront.
15 capital city marathon` 05/18/08 olympia WA 3:57:58 Marathon         Not my best day. It was kind of hot, and I went out a bit fast. Crashed and burned around mile 20. Cheap lesson (re)learned.
14 free state trail marathon 04/26/08 lawrence KS 4:23:59 Marathon         Great, smaller trail race put on by Bad Ben and the KC Trail Nerd community. Not as fast as I'd hoped, but it was good enough for 3rd master's male. Definitely worth the trip!
13 marine corps marathon 10/26/07 arlington VA 3:49:33 Marathon         A nice way to see DC and environs. Got pretty tired late in the race, and was not fond of the serial pounding I took on the freeway surface. Managed a respectable race though, and enjoyed a delicious post-race dinner with ESR friends.
12 top of utah marathon 09/23/06 logan UT 3:40:24 Marathon         Think of it as the undiscovered St. George Marathon. Course is downhill through mile 17 and mostly flat thereafter. PR'd by six minutes, and had a lot of fun doing it.
11 deadwood mickelson trail marathon 06/04/06 deadwood SD 4:28:32 Marathon         Beautiful course, and a nice part of the country. Just didn't enjoy the running part that much. By the time I finished the uphill (mile 14) I was done. Unfortunately still had another 12.2 to go.
10 yakima river canyon marathon 04/01/06 ellensburg WA 3:54:16 Marathon         Finally got to run this gem! Course is beautiful, and the vibe is great too. Very nice bunch of runners. Wasn't feeling that good - left in the dust by Mighty May and Dr. Eric (who was also sick). Running time was okay, and the company was great too.
9 mardi gras marathon 02/05/06 new orleans LA 3:46:12 Marathon         First post-Katrina sporting event in NOLA. Very interesting time to visit, and the race went well too. Had a good day, and got another PR.
8 seattle marathon 11/27/05 seattle WA 3:49:42 Marathon         This may be the best I've ever felt start to finish. Weather was great - cold, but dry. I was coming off of a back injury and had been doing yoga and core strengthening. Decided to just go out and have some fun.
7 coeur d'alene marathon 05/29/05 coeur d'alene ID 3:56:21 Marathon         Warm day ... started cramping up at mile 18 and did some walking after that. Juuust squeezed in under 4 hours. The biggest benefit to doing this race was learning how to spell coeur d'alene without having to look it up.
6 portland marathon 10/03/04 portland OR 3:47:07 Marathon         Good day - felt well-prepared. I'd structured my training pretty well leading up to this race, and it paid off in the form of a 10 minute PR.
5 grandma's marathon 06/21/03 duluth MN 4:39:07 Marathon         Bad day for us ... both got sick the week of the race. Slooow. Nice event - might try to do this one again someday.
4 whidbey island marathon 04/12/03 coupeville WA 4:01:13 Marathon         Very surprised by the hilly course. Finished 4th in my age group, which tells you how small the field was then.
3 new york city marathon 11/03/02 new york city NY 3:57:54 Marathon         One of my favorites! Loved seeing the city, neighborhood by neighborhood, on foot.
2 san diego rock n' roll marathon 05/23/99 san diego CA 4:12:51 Marathon         Ran this one with my wife (who went from zero to marathon in the space of 10 months!).
1 mayor's midnight sun marathon 06/20/98 anchorage AK 4:16:58 Marathon         First one - saw bald eagles, and avoided the moose-induced traffic jam.
