The only marathon where at the end I felt I could run more, I could go on beyond 26.2.

With only five weeks of training after a period of non-running and a bout of illness, it was harder to get to the start than it was to run form start to finish line.

Flat to downhill course, lower altitude, dry air, cool weather is my recipe for a good race. This one came close. |

Hot and humid, it was like running through a big open-air sauna. Subjectively the last six miles went by in just minutes, whole chuncks of mileage dwindling down to nothingness, as if I entered a time warp of sorts.

I thought it would be easy, since it was at sea level, and I am used to running at altitude. It was grim. Exhausted and hypothermic by the turnaround point, I believe I went on in a dissociated state, the body trudging forward, the mind elsewhere. Inexplicably I sprinted during the last mile. It took me hours to get warm again. |

A long, drawn-out, patient affair, uphill during the first part, too hot toward the end. I dedicated a mile each to people I loved. The only marathon where I knew the course, and the least eventful so far. |

I jumped into this one, ahead of plans and halfway unprepared. In hindsight it was a precious gift that ran itself, as if someone threw me into the race and I fell from start to finish, a long tumble along the course. |
