34 Surf the Murph 11/01/08 Savage MN 7:46:13 50 km         Great day, race is run in Murphy Hanrehan Regional Park. A 4 loop hilly occasionally rocky course. Les and team did a great job getting this event started.
33 Grizzly 08/16/08 Choteau MT 5:50:16 Marathon         Good start – too much heat after mile 13 but I got through it. The course is on mostly gravel roads and has a few rolling hills. Great support along the course. A very enjoyable race. It is a loop course, the scenery is great looking back towards the rockies. Good spaghetti dinner the night before. A really well down small town race.
32 Haulin' Aspen 08/10/08 Bend OR 6:00:52 Marathon         Nice course, a 14 mile climb mostly on fire roads up a mountain/hill with the last mile and a half pretty steep (total climb ~2500 ft). Then you run 12 miles on singletrack back down the hill (mt). A fun day, the creek at the finish is real cold as I tried to soak my legs in it.
31 Afton 07/05/08 Hastings MN 7:44:10 50 km         A 2 loop course run in Afton State Park, hilly, great course, well supported, was a bit warm.
30 Marathon 2 Marathon 06/14/08 Storm Lake IA 5:20:04 Marathon         You start in Storm Lake at the high school and run to Marathon where you finish right next to their community center (showers were available). So easy access to restrooms, a lot of great support along the course, great volunteers from start to finish. The course is mostly flat but there are just enough rolling hills to make it ok. It was a little warm but not too bad. Another great small town marathon.
29 Fargo 05/17/08 Fargo ND 5:36:41 Marathon         Great race, you start and finish at the Fargo dome. Nice run through the neighborhoods of Fargo and Moorhead. The course is flat and fast but it can be windy in Fargo which it was. I had breathing issues (probably from all the dust) which slowed me down and forced me to walk 3 or 4 miles (miles 21-25). I ran it in but mile 25 was against a 30+ mph wind, kind of an interesting experience.
28 Chippewa Moraine 04/12/08 New Auburn WI 8:12:33 50 km         First year, run on Ice Age trail, an out and back course. Ran in the snow, a fresh 6 inches the night before. A blast, cold lienies at the end along with some nice warm veggie chili. Great volunteers, great course.
27 Kansas City 10/20/07 Kansas City MO 5:19:56 Marathon         A fabulous race, fantastic volunteers, I loved it but it is hilly and it was hot. They had frozen towels and sponges late in the course. Great support from start to finish. Nice expo, everyone was very friendly.
26 Grandma's 06/17/06 Duluth MN 5:52:48 Marathon         Too hot for me – didn't want to repeat 2005 TCM – walked it in after 23
25 Twin Cities 10/03/04 Minneapolis MN 5:11:39 Marathon         Didn't feel good at the start, hip, hamstring, calf after mile 8, great race otherwise
24 Grandma's 06/19/04 Duluth MN 5:03:34 Marathon         Streak was broken the year before, another knee surgery gave up on Bball and soccer. Did a run/walk and just enjoyed myself.
23 Twin Cities 10/05/03 Minneapolis MN 5:22:21 Marathon         Ran after knee surgery – not enough training mileage so I had to just meander my way through the day.
22 Twin Cities 09/29/02 Minneapolis MN 4:42:52 Marathon         Just like Grandmas before, ran ok, no major expectations, need training boost or focus
21 Grandma's 06/22/02 Duluth MN 4:42:29 Marathon         ran ok, no major expectations, need training boost
20 Twin Cities 10/07/01 Minneapolis MN 5:18:37 Marathon         Sick again ahead of tcm, bad day became worse when my hamstring cramped at mile 16. I always had wondered what that was like, not a lot of fun
19 Grandma's 06/16/01 Duluth MN 4:52:00 Marathon         Keeping the streak alive - foot, weight, training, headwind all were factors
18 Country Music 04/28/01 Nashville TN 6:01:58 Marathon         Had to come back and do it again as Martina McBride was performing after the marathon. What a great concert, that girl can sing. Oh yeah, the race was great again except it got into the 80's and for us coming out of MN that was a bit hot since our hottest training run was in the 40's. A very well done race worth doing.
17 Grandma's 06/17/00 Duluth MN 4:53:58 Marathon         more trouble than expected – hip, foot, knee
16 Country Music 04/29/00 Nashville TN 5:45:58 Marathon         First year and everything was well done. I ran it with my wife which was a neat experience. The course was fair, a handful of hills (that could have been a whole lot worse) and it was well supported. The concert afterwards was very enjoyable and the music on the course was great as well.
15 Grandma's 06/19/99 Duluth MN 5:09:46 Marathon         Ran on torn cartilage, hurt early, intense at 8, almost dropped, walk/ran got me through and I kept my Grandmas streak alive.
14 Twin Cities 10/04/98 Minneapolis MN 4:45:04 Marathon         Hip hurt throughout, no leg lift or push off with the left leg, time for PT. Otherwise it was a nice enjoyable day.
13 Grandma's 06/20/98 Duluth MN 4:17:40 Marathon         disappointing day, hip hurt a bit, no push after 19, left leg had no lift
12 Med City 05/24/98 Rochester MN 4:30:04 Marathon         Ran in torrential rain, it was a blast as it wasn't hot. A cloverleaf course that started and finished in downtown Rochester (it is now a point to point). Great volunteers. Fun day.
11 Twin Cities 10/04/97 Minneapolis MN 4:57:40 Marathon         Again too hot, stomach cramps, threw-up afterward, almost got pulled from the course but someone else was in worse shape. My weight was down 9 lbs 8 hours after the race, I know understand dehydration.
10 Grandma's 06/15/97 Duluth MN 4:33:26 Marathon         Started out thinking PR, heat got me after 21
9 Pineline 04/26/97 Medford WI 4:29:00 Marathon         A nice improvement considering that we ran into a 15 mph headwind the whole way. It was still a struggle in the pea gravel.
8 Twin Cities 10/06/96 Minneapolis MN 4:36:00 Marathon         Sick the week before, had to sit down at expo as too weak to make it through. Surprising my stamina was down the next day but I made it.
7 Grandma's 06/22/96 Duluth MN 4:17:40 Marathon         Training wasn't great but at least no disasters
6 Pineline 04/27/96 Medford WI 4:40:00 Marathon         A point to point down a rails-to-trails. The first 20 or so miles were in pea gravel and the last 5-6 miles were crushed limestone. An enjoyable small town event with great support.
5 Twin Cities 10/08/95 Minneapolis MN 4:02:33 Marathon         After being sick all summer, weight was low (175), just kind of took it all and enjoyed myself. Should have paid attention to my time as I probably could have gone sub 4.
4 Grandma's 06/17/95 Duluth MN 4:34:00 Marathon         A bit warm, stomach cramps started at mile 2
3 Twin Cities 10/08/94 Minneapolis MN 4:07:11 Marathon         Cold windy – ok not quite healthy, what a beautiful course and a great finish at the Capital. Everyone should do Twin Cities
2 Grandma's 06/18/94 Duluth MN 4:32:00 Marathon         Ran with a calf injury not smart but it was a blast
1 Grandma's 06/19/93 Duluth MN 4:02:33 Marathon         Grandmas is a nice rolling course along beautiful Lake Superior. Great Race.
