71 Fargo Marathon 05/18/13 Fargo ND 4:11:55 Marathon 1407 645/ 1,645 459/ 983 5/ 35 Weather was nice for the first half. The rain stopped about 15 minutes before the start and we were parked right by the start line. Cloudy with a light breeze through the first half which I did in 1:59. Then the sun came out, the wind was behind me and I slowed down. Miles 20 to 23 were brutal but I got lots of fluids and poured water over my head to cool off so when I turned around for the last couple of miles I wasa able to pick up my pace!
70 Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon 04/28/13 Oklahoma City OK 4:13:16 Marathon 913 775/ 2747 596/ 1680 8/ 46 Another state completed. Very emotional with the long moment of silence for those who died in 1995 plus those killed in the recent Boston Bombing. Race went okay but I was not used to warm temperatures and it slowed me down.
69 Oakland Marathon 03/24/13 Oakland CA 4:22:51 Marathon 846 419/ 852 301/ 500 7/ 18 From too cold to too hot. Not much different in overall time in the last 2 marathons. Part of it was my mind was not in doing a marathon today but I got the distance completed.
68 Asheville Marathon 03/03/13 Asheville NC 4:24:44 Marathon 985 322/ 962   9/ 26 Very cold day with temperatures in the twenties and wind chill in the teens. Got to see parts of the Biltmore Estate not open to the public!
67 Louisiana Marathon 01/20/13 Baton Rouge LA 4:09:28 Marathon 161 348/ 930 254/ 528 7/ 19 A repeat of the inaugural race but about 2 minutes faster. I used a NB Minimist trail shoe this year and the thicker sole helped out with the rough streets in Baton Rouge.
66 ING Hartford Marathon 10/13/12 Hartford CT 3:56:39 Marathon 522 960/ 2,438 715/ 1,487 15/ 59 Nice race, cool temperatures, crowded start for 1.7 miles till half split off and some color in the leaves! First time under 4 hours since Boston in 2007!
65 Couer d'Alene 05/27/12 Couer d'Alene ID 4:13:08 Marathon 200 193/ 464 126/ 253 9/ 15 It was nice to run in cooler temperatures and the cloud cover kept it from feeling too hot.
64 Charlottesville Marathon 04/07/12 Charlottesville VA 4:15:57 Marathon 466 284/ 475 195/ 301 1/ 10 I had a restless night's sleep and was awake before the alarm went off. We decided to pack up and be ready to drive after the marathon was completed. I also had to decide on what to wear with a 40* starting temperature and no sun for the first 45 minutes. Decided on CWX shorts with a singlet under a throw away long sleeve shirt. Very narrow start with a over a thousand starting through a 10' wide starting loop for the timing system. The difference in my gun time and chip time is almost 4 minutes! And this is a race that uses gun times for all awards! The course is very pretty and is usually either going up or down. The first 6 miles heads out into the country after going through the U of VA and then returns. The next out and back has about 4 miles of greenway as does the last 10K which at least is a loop! The last 3 or 4 tenths is all uphill. Once I passed the finish line, they handed me a finisher's medal and that was it. I figured out that I had to walk back up to where we registered the day before to get water and food. The pizza and chocolate milk was good. I walked back out in the sunshine to stretch and wait for Diana where she would be walking up from the finish line. We did not wait around for awards. With the times we had I did not expect to be in the hunt for an award. So I was very surprised when they finally posted the official results on Monday afternoon and I was 1/10 M6064, 195/301 gender. and 284/475 overall!
63 Greenway Marathon 03/25/12 Nashville TN 4:28:48 Marathon 544 27     Tomas and Lynda put on a very nice race on the Stones River Greenway. Saw many other Maniacs out for a stroll along the river. It's nice having a race close to home and inexpensive as well! Very well supported, especially since I know the course and knew where all the help would be!
62 Louisiana Marathon 01/15/12 Baton Rouge LA 4:11:11 Marathon 118 265/ 637 190/ 395 8/ 22 A very nice inaugural race.
61 Holualoa Tucson Marathon 12/11/11 Tucson AZ 4:18:19 Marathon 773 593/ 971 384/ 570 36/ 52 I was close to being on track for a 4 hour marathon, crossing the half at 2:01:00 but the wheels came off between 18 and 19 but I managed to finish. Marathon #61 was a repeat of marathon #1 12 years ago!
60 Harpeth Hills Flying Monkey Marathon 11/20/11 Nashville TN 4:38:17 Marathon 81 146/ 275 116/ 167 5/ 10 What a day! Knowing the course and my training, I planned a 4:30 pace. The first mile showed up short on my Garmin but after that they seemed pretty close. Right around 30 minutes into the run it started to rain and it continued at varying intensities for the next 4 hours. Occasionally the wind would kick up and I would feel cold but for the most part the temperatures were tolerable. It was nice Having folks on the course that knew me so they would cheer me on. My Garmin quit about mile 18. It was nice to get across the finish and it was not raining right then.
59 7 Bridges Marathon 10/16/11 Chattanooga TN 4:10:33 Marathon 45 94/ 283 81/ 187 4/ 7 The race started in the dark and was a bit confusing since there was no start line other than the crosswalk that we couldn't see in the dark. The middle of the course was all running on the edge of highways until about mile 18 when we got onto the greenway going back into town.
58 Heart of America 09/05/11 Columbia MO 4:24:04 Marathon 52 118/ 209   7/ 11
57 Hatfield/McCoy 06/11/11 Williamson WV 4:29:03 Marathon 80 72/ 237 59/ 149 9/ 18 My first full marathon in 5 finger Vibrams. The mile of rock trail was a little slow followed by 6+ miles in a hot sun.
56 Ocean Drive Marathon 03/27/11 Cape May NJ 4:03:46 Marathon   282/ 737   31/ 86 I'm glad the weatherman missed his forecast and the temperatures and wind were better than anticipated. I almost wore a windbreaker but decided not to about 30 minutes before the race start. About mile 14 I started passing more people than being passed and that continued to the finish! My best marathon since March, 2008!
55 Mercedes Marathon 02/13/11 Birmingham AL 4:8:54 Marathon 1028 490/ 1012 363/ 689 16/ 47 I had a great race even with the repeat hills! I let the monkey get on my back between 25 and 26 but kicked it in the last .2!
54 Charleston Marathon 01/15/11 Charleston SC 4:23:17 Marathon 402   261/ 456   Another inaugural event for us to accomplish! I used the 4 to 1 run walk ratio to cover the distance. We were on very narrow streets with both the half and full marathoners running along. About mile 1 was the Battery and the cannons overlooking the ocean was neat! Another Marathon Maniac joined me with my walk run over the next 7 or 8 miles and we stayed ahead of the pace group. The first half of the course had several long straight shots and the one hill going over an overpass. The second half brought us into a neighborhood where e did a couple of circles and around a number of schools to get the mileage up. The last 6 miles was an out and back.
53 Rocket City Marathon 12/11/10 Huntsville AL 4:34:14 Marathon 416 800/ 1147 589/ 787 32/ 55 Ran this race after dealing with a head cold for the 3 days before and no sleep the night before thanks to the head cold.
52 Duke City Marathon 10/17/10 Albuquerque NM 4:23:55 Marathon 464 186/ 342 138/ 227 7/ 16
51 Fox Vally Marathon 09/19/10 St Charles IL 4:07:11 Marathon   218/ 494 157/ 290 10/ 21
50 Missoula Marathon 07/11/10 Missoula MT 4:23:37 Marathon 1049 672/ 1301 445/ 719 31/ 62 I was doing great in this race! I passed the half at just over 2 hours and climbed the one hill with minimal difficulty. I got to mile 17 or so and started to feel the sun and heat. Walk breaks became longer and more frequent. Diana caught up with me at about 25.4. We walked together for a short distance and then ran the rest of the way in together. It was our first marathon finish together since we finished the Tuscon Marathon in 1999! While we were both impacted by the sun and heat, it was another state completed and we followed it up with a great vacation in Glacier NP.
49 Delaware Marathon 05/16/10 Wilmington DE 4:09:39 Marathon 390 244/ 556 174/ 345 8/ 28 A nice double loop course. I was doing well until mile 22 which started a 1+ mile in the sun with some hills. Still hit my target!
48 Miracle Match Marathon 01/31/10 Waco TX 4:27:18 Marathon 125 71/ 168 52/ 106 5/ 8 It was a very cold day but the fajitas after the race were great!
47 Rocket City Marathon 12/11/09 Huntsville AL 4:10:07 Marathon 451 684/ 1254 531/ 846 42/ 67 I bonked about mile 18 and kept getting slower as I approached the finish line until a guardian angel appeared and ran with me for a half mile and got me out of my funk!
46 Mt Desert Island 10/18/09 Bar Harbor ME 4:14:15 Marathon 362     16
45 Heart of America 09/07/09 Columbia MO 4:21:47 Marathon 189 150/ 277 109/ 194 13/ 21 I was planning to do 10 minute miles and I hit it. I trashed my quads on the downhills and had to walk downhill at mile 23!
44 Rock N Roll Seattle 06/27/09 Seattle WA 4:15:30 Marathon 13044 1887/ 5602 1174/ 2543 50/ 139 Lots of concrete on this course
43 Madison Marathon 05/24/09 Madison WI 4:17:34 Marathon 2322 880/ 1542 625/ 958 30/ 46 I did well till mile 17 when the heat and poor training caught up with me. It is a beautiful course so I tried to enjoy all of the wonderful sights along the route. I had a great time saw and chatted with a number of Maniacs. Diana and I also met up with friends from Nashville who were 3rd female overall and 10th male overall. It was a great weekend and we even stopped and tried some brats at the BratFest!
42 SunTrust National Marathon 03/21/09 Washington DC 4:11:59 Marathon 1818 1072/ 2050 813/ 1358 24/ 59
41 North Central Trail Marathon 11/29/08 Sparks MD 4:10:10 Marathon 328 237/ 389 196/ 290 15/ 30 It is a very flat course for those who like flat. The last mile has a few steep climbs that really tell on the legs that are tired from no changes. It took some time, but after a week, they found my chip information and got me entered in the final results. I must have had a bad chip since they didn't get any split information.
40 Mountain Home Marathon for Kenya 11/15/08 Mountain Home AR 4:14:21 Marathon 341 16/ 52 14/ 27 1/ 3 Very small race but hilly with a cold wind!
39 Breakers Marathon 10/18/08 Newport RI 4:05:17 Marathon 579 271/ 610 203/ 365 29/ 61
38 Greenway Marathon 10/04/08 Nashville TN 4:26:34 Marathon 852 27/ 63 18/ 37 2/ 7
37 Little Grand Canyon 09/13/08 Price UT 4:09:13 Marathon 114 41/ 145 31/ 82 6/ 17 I liked the course. I ran with a friend across the flats in the first 16 miles. He stopped to search for some dinosaur tracks but I continued on down the canyon where the red rocks were spectacular! The switched from 5 year age groups to 10 year age groups at age 50, putting me 6th in a ten year group instead of second in a 5 year group.
36 Mickelson Trail Marathon 06/08/08 Deadwood SD 4:17:08 Marathon 195 136/ 309 93/ 214 5/ 17 This is a great course! I was well paced on the long uphill to the halfway point so I was able to eek out a negative split! I was careful about the elevation.
35 Country Music Marathon 04/26/08 Nashville TN 4:28:50 Marathon   2265/ 4473 1491/ 2463 48/ 96 I ran this as a long run and as a pacer for the 4:30 pace group. Many of the group I started out will left me behind about mile 20 and about 4 fell behind at mile 21.
