This race was one of those "maniac" experiments to see how much I'd recovered from the 100 miler. I ended up pacing a friend for their first marathon so I just took it nice and easy. Definitely some residual fatigue from the 100 but finished pain free. Weather was another story, hot and humid from the start. Far cry from the icy bridges last weekend at Rocky! |

I just ran a hundred miles...hard to wrap your mind around that but what an experience. Felt great for the first 60 miles but then the wheels started coming off. I learned first hand that the ultra saying of "if you start to feel good during an ultra, don’t worry, you will get over it" is spot on. This year the finish percentage was the lowest ever at 60%; blame the cold. The highlight was running with some of the best ultra runners in the world to include Tony Krupicka, Karl Meltzer, Scott Junek and a Texan that is quickly making a name for herself, Liza Howard. It is one thing to hear about someone running a hundred miles in under 13 hours but is entirely mind boggling to watch it happen live and in person. Good to see several maniacs that I haven't seenin a while: #666, 2117 and of course 1322 and 2248.
This year's finish is dedicated to the memory of MAM who passed away during last years race. We all missed you! |

Bandera continues to have a mystical hold on me. No matter how beat up I get out there I keep coming back for more! This year's race was a bit warmer than last year but we got a late night downpour that made up the difference. The limestone was slick and the puddles were deep but I still ran better than last year. Special thanks to Renee (#1322) and Greg (#2248) for the the carb load and a place to crash, you guys are the best. Congrats Renee on your first 100K!! |

I really enjoyed this race and the weather was the best. It was kind of like a PR day, only without the PR! The Maniacs Photo Op in front of the Cotton Bowl was a good start to a great day. Ran a few miles with T.O. (#408) whom I hadn't seen in a couple of years. |

A bad day on the trails is better than a good day in the office. A great day on the trails is beyond words. This was a great day. After taking a running break during most of 2010 I'm getting into old form again. Times are down and motivation is up. One more go at Bandera in January and the rest of the winter is prep for the Rocky 100 in February. |

Unexpected ultra/marathon double weekend. After the 50K I decided to shoot over to Fort Worth for a marathon. First half was OK but the concrete took its toll. Still finished under 5 hours and as a bonus the 1/2 marathoners didn't drink all the beer! Ran the last few miles with #94. |

What a great race honoring veterans. Weather was perfect and the course was challenging without trashing your legs. Handmade ceramic finishers medal, top notch grub and a customized bottle of homebrew waited at the finish. Very impressed! I will definitely make this one an annual event. |

Bandera continues to challenge and thrill as this is one of my favorite places to run. Although it was hot and the Sotol cactus was more abundant than usual, I enjoyed the no frills, self supported format. I can't wait to return in January for another go at the 100k. Kudos to the 100 mile finishers, only 45% completed the distance. |

The inaugural Tyler marathon was a fantastic small town race through one of the most picturesque cities in Texas. I signed up late to get at least one long slow training run in before hitting the hills at Bandera for Cactus Rose. This was definitely a good prep race....heat, hills and more hills. Ran the first half and walk/jogged the hills in the second half. |

Bandera continues to prove itself as one of the toughest courses in Texas. This year was no exception and the weather didn't help. The temerature at the start was 12! After a year of no hill training it was a real wake up call. I still bet my previous best 50K time on the course by almost an hour. |

I'm running this great Texas race series as a satellite participant. It was a perfect night for running, complete with the call to prayer chats coming from the local mosque at sunrise. Holy cow, what a crazy run! This race is not for the faint of heart. We were treated to all four seasons in only 13.32 miles and 7815' of elevation gain. The bottom of the course was 40 degrees warmer than the summit (which was covered with 6" of snow thanks to a freak August snowstorm). Ran the double. The weather was miserable on Saturday and the Ascent was called off due to weather after only three hours. Fortunately, I had alreay made it to 12,000 feet and mile 10 and had to run all the way back down the mountain in the rain. Anywho, no double even though many runners finished a 20 mile "half marathon". State #11. |

"The Pig" rocked almost as much as the bridge at mile 3. Would have had a PR day (which is shocking considering last weekend's horrific double from hell) but the course was lenthened by almost 4/10th mile due to an early morning fire. Anywho, I ran a few miles with the mythical Irish Maniac #854 and drank a beer with #574 at the airport. All-in-all a great race weekend. State #10 |

Day two of the double started off great until I started running! It was rainy, cold and windy. I was done by mile 4 but managed to finish with a PW (Personal Worst) :-) Still, it is a race I'd recommend. I did get to run a dozen miles with a blind runner that was completing his 6th marathon. Quite an inspiration. I ran into #642 at the finish and #49 on the course. State #9 |
