56 Edmonton Marathon 08/22/10 Edmonton AB 3:58:27 Marathon 3586       Good running conditions today as most of the smoke from BC forest fires had cleared and skies were overcast, glad to finish under 4
55 Marathon By The Sea 08/08/10 Saint John NB 4:00:24 Marathon 47 32/59     Happy with a good result after the long day I had last Sunday. Ran nearly even splits, pushing for sub 4, came up just short but really enjoyed the run today
54 Brookvale Ultra 50k 08/01/10 Brookvale PE 7:59:11 50 km 718 13/13     A very memorable first ultra in my home province of PEI and my first last place finish. When the legs felt heavy after 2 miles I knew I was in for a long day! A lot of up and down and twists and turns over uneven ground through the woods. The course was 2 loops, and I didn't stop too long at the mid-way point as temptation was high to pack it in early
53 Madison Marathon 07/25/10 Ennis MT 5:51:45 Marathon   23/27     WOW! this course lived up to its billing as the "Highest Road Marathon in America", the elevation ranged from a "low" of 8400ft to a high of 9600 ft. The route was along a gravel/dirt forestry road in the Gravelly Range mountains outside of Ennis, MT. Would love to do it again, but it will not be the 2nd day of a double, which included a 6 hour drive between locations.
52 Desert Morning News Marathon 07/24/10 Salt Lake City UT 4:37:11 Marathon 379 385/564     Little sleep and a long drive to Salt Lake made for a tough day, but with the Utah summer heat there is little choice but to start before the sun comes up
51 Fast Trax Ultra 06/26/10 Edmonton AB 4:57:31 50 km 112       Happy to finish in under 5, especially with spending the previous 2 days on the parade square. Well organized event close to home, race was 5 loops on a 10km course along paved park bike paths
50 Bear Lake Day 2 06/12/10 Garden City UT 4:41:57 Marathon 66       Glad I took that cabin at the KOA as it rained last night, another cool day, nice run till about the midway point then exposed to some high winds/rain and one long stretch of highway running with a narrow shoulder
49 Bear Lake Day 1 06/11/10   ID 4:18:45 Marathon 1966       Nice to see Yolanda and other fellow maniacs, cool at the start but a nice day for running, 2nd half seemed to stretch out
48 Fallen 4 Marathon 06/06/10 Mayerthorpe AB 3:56:35 Marathon 308       Great Memorial Event for 4 RCMP officers killed in the line of duty. Ran part of the way today with 2 fellow Islanders who have made Alberta home. What a difference a week makes in terms of weather, beautiful day today, even hot by the end. Had a real rough patch between 20 and 30 km, but came out of it and was able to push to get home in under 4 hours
47 Calgary Marathon 05/30/10 Calgary AB 4:35:33 Marathon 817       Quick stop at home to shower and eat after 50km yesterday, looked out window just before leaving to see driving snow! End of May in Alberta! Up very early this morning after 3 hours sleep at friend's place in Calgary, cold here as well, only a few degrees, but at least no snow or rain
46 Blackfoot Ultra 05/29/10 Cooking Lake, AB AB 5:54 50 km 170       WOW! Tons of mud and water! 3 degrees and raining from start to finish with some snow mixed in for good measure. 100km runners started a couple hours earlier so the trail was good and ripped up by the time we started. They had to pull 10 runners with mild hypothermia, I probably was as well, but was able to finish. A beautiful place to run, just not today!
45 Bluenose Marathon 05/23/10 Halifax NS 3:36:34 Marathon 209 36     Strong run today despite the hills, felt good throughout, great to have family there along the course and at the finish
44 Lakeland Runaway Marathon 05/15/10 Vermillion AB 4:30:42 Marathon 42       Great run and conversation with Darwin today, hilly course but a beautiful day. Up early and drove out to the race this morning. Great small event
43 Kandahar Marathon 03/07/10 Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan   4:25:40 Marathon 147       One of my most memorable, first marathon in a war zone, one of the pre-race instructions was a reminder on what to do in case of a rocket attack! Took on this one with little base training, but I figured it was probably my one and only chance to run one in Afghanistan and it was the first time they have a held a full marathon on base here. Got caught with my head down trudging along and narrowly missed a nasty interaction with some loose razor wire that was hanging from the fence. Struggled with stomach problems the first half, recovered in the 2nd running a negative split, The American troops did a great job putting it all together
42 Kaapsehoop Marathon 11/07/09 Nelspruit, South Africa   4:27:35 Marathon   430     had only run 28km the past month since my deployment but had to run this one on my early R and R, memorable for a number of reasons! finished just in time for a medal as they ran out soon after. 4th continent for running and 5th for travelling
41 Lake Tahoe Marathon # 3 09/27/09 S. Lake Tahoe CA 4:23:38 Marathon 4       My last marathon before deployment to Afghanistan on Wednesday. A great way to end my running season, my first Triple completed with my fastest time of the 3 days. Wish I could have stuck around longer afterwards but had to get to the airport. Had a great weekend
40 Lake Tahoe Marathon # 2 09/26/09 CA - NV NV 4:46:29 Marathon 4       Felt great the first few miles, thought I would beat yesterday's mark but the last 8 miles didn't seem like they could end soon enough. thankful to Lynn and Stephanie from Flordia for the rides back each day
39 Lake Tahoe Marathon # 1 09/25/09 S. Lake Tahoe CA 4:40:09 Marathon 4       Great to see some familiar faces and to meet some new maniacs. Tough long climb to Spooner Summit the final few miles
38 Queen City Marathon 09/13/09 Regina SK 3:36:07 Marathon 458 82/468 71/296 13/35 those mountain runs must be paying off, a nice change to run a prarie marathon, pushed hard in the first half and hung on (for the most part) in the 2nd half
37 Walk In The Park 09/06/09 Kamloops BC 8:11 54 km 34       Not exactly a "Walk In The Park"! but, by times a run, a hike, and near the end a crawl, 3 Laps with a combined 8500ft of elevation gain provided some beautiful views over Kamloops, as the RD warned on the website "the trail is rarely flat". IT Band kicked in about 33km making the final lap a real trudge
36 Moose Mountain Marathon 08/29/09 Bragg Creek AB 5:38:23 Marathon 20 17/19   6/7 Spent Friday morning doing our annual "Battle Fitness Test" (BFT), a necessary evil that comes with the job. Figured I would miss out on this marathon anyway as I was supposed to work on Saturday, but late Friday was told to come in for Sunday instead. So, up at 2:30 AM Sat morning for the 4 hr drive to Bragg Creek, 3000 ft elevation trail run up the mountain and then back down, a PW , but a beautiful course, nice sweatshirt and the biggest medal I have ever seen at the finish. All things considered very happy with the results and the decison to "run the moose".
35 Edmonton Marathon 08/16/09 Edmonton AB 3:46:26 Marathon 2980 140/417   38/79 #35 for a 35 year old! before my maniac days a goal I once had was for my marathons to equal my age, but this will probably be the first and last time they are the same, had a good run today, my fastest since 2006, running near even splits despite the river valley
34 Grizzly Marathon 08/01/09 Choteau MT 4:19:44 Marathon 27 18/80     27 miles, everyone wearing garmins reporting the same, RD had to alter the course a couple days prior so we all got in some extra exercise, still it was a great small event. Ended my 3 week ++ road trip with 2 beautiful days of hiking in Waterton Lakes NP following this run
33 San Francisco Marathon 07/26/09 San Francisco CA 4:10:29 Marathon 4641 1834/5093 1445/3370 281/571 Started in wave # 4, saw lots of maniacs out there, ran a 9 minute negative split, probably could have ran a 4 hour if pushed harder in 1st half but still a little tired from Friday and the drive to SF from Salt Lake, very nice course including the run over GG Bridge, spent a couple days exploring the city afterwards
32 Desert Morning News Marathon 07/24/09 Salt Lake City UT 3:58:30 Marathon 444 180/526     Nice to get back to user friendly road marathons after last Saturday's "adventure", fast first few miles downhill, but the quads paid for it late in the race. 3 days prior- 25km round-trip hike to the botton of the Grand Canyon with 9000ft of elevation change, Amazing Scenery!
31 Devil Mountain 50k 07/18/09 Pagosa Springs CO 8:16 50 km 158 51/61     WOW, as someone said "they don't call it the Rocky Mountains for nothing"! over 5000 ft up single track and back again, discovered this was a course for experienced trail runners, covered in dirt, blood, sweat, and snot after this one! fell at least 10 times, cut hand wide open while trying to break one fall. walked half of the 2nd half in an effort to stay upright, Will forever remember this race as "Face Plants Aplenty"! still it raised money for a great cause and RD and his wife very helpful. Funny that I am listed in the results as being in the 50 plus age group because I certainly felt I had aged 20 years by the time I finished!
30 Missoula Marathon 07/12/09 Missoula MT 3:49:14 Marathon 451 174/608     Start of 3 week road trip with #30, and the first one I've done twice. great event, just the right sized field of runners for my liking, not too big, not too small. happy to break 3:50 with a bit of a push at the end.
29 Creemore Vertical Challenge 07/04/09 Creemore ON 5:44:20 50 km 165 33/61     the name says it all, Vertical Challenge indeed! ,thought (hoped) the RD was joking at the start when she said there were ropes along a couple of trail sections to help us up the inclines, she wasn't! (60% uphill course), enjoyed it, but a very different beast then the average road marathon
28 Niagara Marathon 06/20/09 Niagara On The Lake ON 3:57:14 Marathon 196 26/69     great event, nice paved trail course along the the river, although it poured rain most of the way I enjoyed it, nice to get back to marathoning after 10 weeks on Field Exercises this spring
27 Valentine Marathon 02/08/09 Olympia WA 4:34:10 Marathon 669       not my day, actually felt like I had enough at the half way point. clock read 4:23 at the finish but I am sure my garmin was right - 4:34. 20th marathon in last 40 weeks, time to give the body and the bank a break!
26 Carlsbad Marathon 01/25/09 Carlsbad CA 4:17:03 Marathon 1285 571/1141 416/694 58/86 Nice course, hills likely seemed worse than they were on account of the double, long trip home afterwards but the weekend was well worth it
25 Diamond Valley Lake 01/24/09 Hemet CA 3:57:57 Marathon 394 40/136   6/18 low key marathon run around the lake, scenic views, fundraiser for a good cause - H for H
