142 Pigtails Challenge 100 mi. 05/23/13 Renton WA 26:24 100 mi         Felt so blessed to have so many friends offer to come out & pace me for a loop or 2! Very inspirational to see so many doing their first 100, 150, or 200. Never really like running in the dark, but the full moon, frogs ribbiting, conversations with friends, & serenity of the night actually made it kinda cool. RD Van & volunteers rocked!
141 First Call Spring 05/11/13 Bothell WA 5:53:06 50 km         Enjoyable day, despite running most of it solo and on tired legs. Course more like 32 mi. again. Fun yakking and snacking w/ friends at the finish area. Adrian's wife made little blue & yellow ribbon pins for all runners to wear to help show solidarity after the recent Boston Marathon bombings.
140 Tacoma City 05/05/13 Tacoma WA 4:39:41 Marathon       2/ 16 The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly! The Good: warm sunshine which I love, lots of friends & acquaintances out there, plus placed 2/16 in age group. The Bad: hillier than expected and the pacer I was trying to stick with ran off on me - haha - at the big uphill around mi. 14. And the Ugly: calves started cramping up last few miles, bottom of 1 big toe got blistered, plus wasn't fully recovered from 50-miler last Sun.
139 Mt. Si 04/28/13 Snoqualmie WA 10:04:19 50 mi         Fun day on the trails - early morning mi. w/ Marilyn, Hideko, Deb, & Jill - then we all spread out. Slow final 10 mi. for me, as I started calling it Mt. "Sigh," but still managed to finish ~46 min. faster than in 2008. Awesome volunteers & race organization!
138 Dizzy Daze 03/23/13 Seattle WA 11:15:50 54.4 mi         Another Sat. of lotsa lake looping. Reached 50-mi. mark in record time for me (~10:09), then hit the brakes. Beautiful pink sunrise, yellow daffodils, and blue afternoon skies made for a terrific and colorful early spring day. What a smorgasbord of food and group of vivacious volunteers at the aid stations! Great job, Matt & Betsy, in organizing all the loopy fun!
137 Pacific Rim One Day Run 03/16/13 Longview WA 10:48:35 50 mi         Fun company & conversation w/ Jenny for first 32 mi. Got up to 50 mi. when my plans to keep movin' for all 24 hrs. got blown away - literally. Crazy winds coupled w/ cold rain - getting harder & harder to abide by the "No whining!" sign that was posted along the course, ;-) so....decided to call it good for the day.
136 Spring Run for Fun (at Redmond Watershed) 03/03/13 Redmond WA 5:24:55 Marathon         Fun easy-paced day on the trails, chatting it up w/ Marilou. Lots of walk breaks, some slippery muddy sections, several slowdowns to let horses pass, and unexpected sunshine all day. Didn't go shoeless, but did go "GU-less" for the first time in a marathon since the aid stations were well-stocked with PBJ's, red taters, crackers, etc.
135 Invest in Youth Fund Run (6 hr.) 02/23/13 Machias WA 5:51:30 31.9 mi         Started off with light dusting of snow on sides of trail (it was Snow-homish County after all). A couple miles out was a slippery, icy, slushy, slow-going section that didn't thaw out for several hrs. First out-&-back w/ Jenny & Rob, a couple of miles w/ Ryan Mc. later on, but majority of time spent alone w/ my tunes. Always someone to wave to/shout out to all day long, however.
134 First Call Presidents' Day 02/16/13 Bothell WA 5:52:51 50 km         Not a drop of rain, despite all the weather predictions. Yay for wearing my "magic" goretex jacket the entire 50k (actually closer to 32 mi.). 2 bald eagle sightings. Compatible pace/company with Jill. Roaring fire in fireplace underneath the shelter at the finish was wonderful! Cool finishers' medal made by Steve W. and another terrific race put on by the Call family.
133 Lake Youngs Nuts Run 01/26/13 Renton WA 6:03:38 50 km         Fun running with several gals. Good weather & trail conditions, BUT very happy to be doing only 3+ loops today, rather than the 10+ loops at the Pigtails Challenge!!!
132 First Call 01/01/13 Bothell WA 5:14:42 Marathon         Quadzilla Day 4: Done! Legs, feet, toes did much better than I ever anticipated, but just couldn't ever seem to dial in the sleep thingy for days. Felt like a walking zombie at times, but the 27 degree temps. at the beginning were at least invigorating!
131 Yukon Do It! 12/31/12 Port Orchard WA 4:54:45 Marathon         Quadzilla Day 3: Still feeling better than expected on this fairly hilly course. Picturesque w/ views of the sound, ferries crossing, etc. Nice to have just a single out & back course & much better race organization this yr. Huge thanks to Sabrina for her company & pacing the last 9 mi. or so!
130 Seattle Locks 12/30/12 Seattle WA 5:02:54 Marathon         Quadzilla Day 2: Perfect running weather for end of Dec. Hooked up w/ new gal to run the first half, then w/ Hideko for second half. Other than ~10 min. waiting for traffic lts. & the 2 big hills we ran twice, it was a fun day! Thanks to Steve for directing an awesome low-key event!
129 Loop the Lake 12/29/12 Renton WA 4:53:18 Marathon         Quadzilla Day 1: Interesting to run a new course, including climbing ~4 flights of stairs to get to I-90 bridge before running over it. Fun conversations w/ Karen & George W. for part. Light rain most of the day & rolling hills most of the second half. Kudos to RD Eric Sach & his exuberant volunteers!
128 Pigtails 12/15/12 Landsburg WA 4:41:09 Marathon         Fun to see the first snow flurries of the season and fun to run/chat with Jill & Marilyn O. for part of the day. Oink, oink...the gloves w/ piggy logo and the finisher's "medal" (soft plush pig) really rock!
127 Ghost of Seattle 11/24/12 Seattle WA 4:40:17 Marathon         Fun day seeing so many friends along the course and admiring the views of Lake WA! However, would have been a much more enjoyable (& hopefully faster) race if had slept >3 hrs. the night before.
126 First Call Veterans Day 11/10/12 Bothell WA 4:45:09 Marathon         Kinda like one big happy family out there today! Nice conversational pace for most of the run. Cold day, but it did give the peanut butter GU a yummy consistency.
125 In Unity We Run 11/03/12 Kent WA 4:47:37 Marathon         Great to see the trees with all their fall colors lining the Green River and to see that the sandbags were finally gone! Couldn't seem to get any fast-twitch muscles firing today though. Thanks to Steve B. for organizing this fun low-key event that helped support a food bank.
124 Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence 7-hr. 09/23/12 Seattle WA 6:51 33.75 mi       1/ 2 Enthusiastic RD & volunteers made each runner feel SO special all day long for this inaugural, small event in Magnuson Park! Varied terrain, great weather, great conversations w/ running partner Jill & others, yummy post-race meal catered by vegetarian restaurant & served on picnic tables right down by the water, great medal and trophies, and an overall happy feeling for the day!
123 Skagit Flats 09/09/12 Burlington WA 4:37:49 Marathon       1/ 6 Kept a decent pace until ~mi. 19 when Mother Nature turned the fan on HIGH and the headwinds/sidewinds made it hard to push on through. Thanks to Terry for organizing the race, designing a meaningful medal, and having specific shirts for women this year!
122 Redmond Watershed Preserve Summer Marathon 08/25/12 Redmond WA 5:10:38 Marathon         Met my goals of staying vertical while running the trails and saving enough energy to stand on my tootsies from 7PM - 2AM that night volunteering at Hyak aid station for Cascade Crest 100. Long but very rewarding day!
121 First Call Summer Marathon 08/18/12 Bothell WA 4:44:50 Marathon         Humid but not too hot. Nice change of pace to go the other direction on the trail for the first 1/2. Tired legs after last Sunday's long event, but surprisingly felt better than expected. Kudos to the Call family for once again putting on a fun race!
120 Transcendence 12-hr. 08/12/12 Olympia WA 11:09:38 44.2 mi         Had a blast again this year, despite wondering if I'd even be able to show up at the starting line due to an emergency tooth extraction/implant done just a few days prior. Nicknamed the event the TranscenDENTAL! Did LOTS of walking and took long breaks in my camp chair which I never do in a race, but so happy to be out there chatting w/ so many peeps, even on such a hot day.
119 Wild Thing Summer Fling 07/22/12 Bellingham WA 4:56 Marathon         Wild & crazy day performing goofy tasks after each of the 10 loops around Lk. Padden. This confirmed once again that acting your age and acting normal are highly overrated! Humongous thanks to Diana & Lauri for putting this on!
118 Light at the End of the Tunnel 07/15/12 Hyak to North Bend WA 4:29:43 Marathon       3/ 6 Fun to see so many of the "usual suspects." Foggy and drizzly day made for cooler running, but unfortunately obliterated some of the spectacular views. Felt good until mi. 22 when had to slow down due to calf cramp threats. Superb organization; fabulous spread of food at the finish!
117 Bellevue Ghost 06/24/12 Bellevue WA 5:04 Marathon         Mother Nature was on pretty good behavior today. Ran faster than past 2 yrs. on this hilly course, despite still recovering from sprained ankle while hiking a wk. ago and despite having to stop to consult map numerous times due to some course markings that were obliterated by recent rain.
116 Pigtails Challenge 05/26/12 Renton WA 26:30 100 mi         10+ loops around the hills of Lake Youngs made for quite the challenge! Somehow managed a significant PR from my only other 100-miler, even with lots of walking, esp. at night. Kudos to the terrific organizers, volunteers, & pacers, and to running buddy Jenny for first 33 mi.!
115 Ft. Steilacoom Trail Run 05/05/12 Lakewood WA 6:14:14 50 km         Wide variety of trail surfaces and lots of twists & turns in this little park. Course marked very well! Did okay until ~mi. 28 when Mr. Crampy tried to grab hold of both calves, so had to walk more to stave him off.
114 Easter Marathon 04/07/12 Lacey WA 4:49 Marathon         Determined to make it a fun day w/ friends in the sunshine, despite a course we weren't thrilled about (busy road!).
113 Dizzy Daze 03/24/12 Seattle WA 13:36:45 100 km         Body held up better than expected after Pac Rim last weekend, although felt a bit loopy & droopy after 19 loops of Green Lake. Fun long day w/ Jill (aka Minnie Mouse). Spotted beautiful daffodils, a raccoon in the wee morning hours, & a few bunnies. Pizza at the aid station was delish!
112 Pacific Rim 03/17/12 Longview WA 10:53:46 50 mi         Really hoping to go all 24 hrs., but a cold soaking rain squall in the evening made for an abridged version of the race. Oh well...rest of the day was like one big circular party.
111 Invest in Youth 6-hr. FUNd Run 03/03/12 Machias WA 5:54 32.9 mi         Racked up the most mi. of the women, not due to being fast...just by being stubborn (I mean "determined") about running as much of the 6-hr. allotted time.
110 First Call Presidents' Day 02/20/12 Bothell WA 5:29:15 50 km         Fun running different sections with Laura J., Brian P., & Kristin P.! Things seemed to click today: my second fastest 50K ever! (time @ the marathon distance = 4:35) Enjoyed volunteering afterward & seeing Bob D. finish marathon #499!
109 West Seattle Fat Ass 02/05/12 Seattle WA 5:58:38 50 km         Great running buddies, jaw-dropping views of the snowy Olympics all lit up in pink at sunrise, views of Mt. Rainier & Mt. Baker & the Seattle skyline... plus an incredibly sunny day in Feb.! Who could ask for more?
108 Lake Youngs Nuts Run 01/28/12 Renton WA 6:11:22 50 km         First race since recent cataract surgery and not much running, so took 'er easy. Legs were perhaps a bit too "well-tapered." Parks dept. did great job clearing the downed trees from all the recent crazy storms. Good organization + wide variety of aid station goodies for a low-key event!
107 First Call 01/02/12 Bothell WA 4:57:48 Marathon         Day 3 of Winter Triple. Taking the early start was so worthwhile - saw gorgeous sunrise and reflection in the river. Good company again w/ Laura J. & Georgeta for part. Tired but happy - all 3 races faster than same races in last year's Triple.
106 First Chance 01/01/12 Seattle WA 5:15:08 Marathon         Day 2 of Triple. What a change from yesterday! 55 degrees on the first day of the new year. Fun times with Laura J., Georgeta G., and Bill B.
105 Yukon Do It 12/31/11 Port Orchard WA 4:43:13 Marathon         Day 1 of Triple. Black ice & slippery patches the first hr. Great views of the snow-capped Olympics. Fun to watch the ferries traversing the sound. 31st marathon or beyond (including 12 ultras) for the year 2011.
104 Pigtails 12/17/11 Landsburg WA 4:51:38 Marathon         Easy fun conversational pace w/ Marilou & Jill (plus Vivian, Sarah, Megan for part). Mother Nature finally cooperated this yr.! The Pigtails arm warmers rock!
103 Ghost of Seattle 11/26/11 Seattle WA 4:36:12 Marathon         That was one heavy finisher's medal!
102 First Call Veterans Day 11/12/11 Bothell WA 4:35:28 Marathon         Another first-class First Call event! No sightings of eagles today, but lots of sightings of Maniacs & Half-Fanatics! Rained just the last few miles and when volunteering after the race.
101 in Unity We Run 11/05/11 Kent WA 4:38:35 Marathon         Long course (~26.8 mi.) - hit 26.2 @ 4:32. Beautiful sunrise w/ Mt. Rainier silhouetted against pink skies, cold & slippery in spots @ the start, & warm sunshine to finish. May never be able to say this again, but got 2nd place overall female finish (yeah, VERY small field). Thanks, Steve, for bringing this event back & for the proceeds going to a great cause!
100 Poulsbo Marathon 10/16/11 Poulsbo WA 5:14:24 Marathon         #100...done! (total of 55 marathons + 45 ultras) One hill after another, after another...repeat, repeat ALL day long today (plus an extra mi. due to 1 missed turn). However, scenic views, exuberant volunteers, good conversation w/ Jill, & a runner's high got me to the finish line with a big ol' smile! Hmmm...what goal(s) to tackle next???
99 Winthrop Marathon 09/25/11 Winthrop WA 4:41:13 Marathon         Beautiful scenery at the edge of the wilderness, down through the national forest, along country roads, & into the quaint little western town. Hello quads...ouch!!!
98 Skagit Flats 09/11/11 Burlington WA 4:51:06 Marathon         Kinda nice to have flat, paved roads after 2 trail races last weekend! Legs tried to tell me they were done though at ~20 mi. Very enthusiastic volunteers at all the aid stations. Cool spinner medal!
97 Roots Rock 50K Trail Run 09/04/11 Port Gamble WA 7:42:30 50 km         Woke up and decided to make this a double at the last minute. Slow pace, but great low-key event and clear course markings - different course this yr. Fun to run part w/ Robert Stretz & help him celebrate 10-star Titanium status today!
96 Soaring Eagle 09/03/11 Sammamish WA 6:00:25 Marathon         Didn't always soar like an eagle today, as I "kissed Mother Earth" several times (along with quite a few folks who took falls). Sunlight flickering through the trees created dancing shadows, making it difficult to see all the roots, rocks, etc. Tried to save something in the tank for a possible double on Sun.
95 Friday Night Marathon 08/26/11 Seattle WA 5:17:56 Marathon         Toasty afternoon & evening - nice easy pace w/ Jill for all 26.2. Got to see a sunset reflected over Green Lake rather than a sunrise. Many thanks to Rob S. & family for putting this on!
94 Transcendence 12 hr. Endurance Run 08/14/11 Olympia WA 11:46:30 53.3 mi         Didn't have to transcend the 97 degree temps. this year, just some physical & mental slumps here & there. Craig, Rachael, & all the amazing volunteers made it feel like 1 big happy family out there circling the lake.
93 Call of the Wild Summer Marathon 08/06/11 Bothell WA 4:48:24 Marathon         A very positive day...as in positive splits - don't they just sound so much better than negative ones?!? ;-) Fun day running and volunteering afterward.
92 Light at the End of the Tunnel 07/24/11 Hyak to No. Bend WA 4:52:59 Marathon         Felt strong the first 1/2, then slowed way down. Oh well, more time to savor the scenery & sunshine! Brian & volunteers - you deserve big ol' medals yourselves for all you did to ensure a top-notch race!
91 Redmond Watershed Preserve Marathon 07/16/11 Redmond WA 5:21:36 Marathon         Woods still lush & green and the trails still muddy & slip-sloppy in spots in our so-called "summer" of 2011. Course changes made race seem tougher this yr., but trail markings were much improved!
90 Bellevue Ghost 06/26/11 Bellevue WA 5:17:25 Marathon         Saw lots of hills, but no ghosts! Thanks, Cheri, for the wonderful company and thanks, Arthur, for all your work in putting on the event!
89 Lake Youngs Ultra 06/11/11 Renton WA 5:43 28.8 mi         Perfect weather, non-muddy trails, yummy BBQ, good company! Fun surprises at the finish, with Jill providing a congrats banner for "Titanium Steve", for a friend becoming a new MM today, & for my retirement (from work). Got showered with Silly String & confetti party poppers. Memorable day!
88 Rainier to Ruston 06/04/11 South Prairie to Tacoma WA 6:40:12 50 km         What a great day to celebrate National Trails Day & support further funding for this trail! Toasty indeed, but fun to share the day with Marilou, Marilyn O., & Margaret B. for part of it & Abi for the entire day (well except for when I took a wrong turn & added on a bonus .5 mi.)
87 Issaquah Spring Marathon 05/30/11 Issaquah WA 5:22:05 Marathon         Nice easy conversational pace w/ Monte & Jill on packed gravel trail paralleling Lake Sammamish. Energy was totally sapped from 2-wk. chest cold. Fun, small, free, low-key, first-time event that Rob S.& family made into a big success!
86 Watershed Preserve 12-hr. 05/21/11 Redmond WA 7:09:01 32.3 mi         Love these trails and the event, but couldn't hang in there for the whole 12 hrs. due to nasty chest cold.
85 Lumberjack 04/16/11 Port Gamble WA 13:29 50 mi         Can sum it up in 3 words: MUD, MUD, MUD!!! Thanks to my muddy buddy Jill for the company during the last 3 loops!
84 Dizzy Daze 03/26/11 Seattle WA 5:08:45 Marathon         Another Sat. of lake-loopin' fun! Felt better than expected after last wk., but still not fully recovered. Incredible sunrise reflected all across Green Lake! Good company with Marilou & Margaret B.
83 Pacific Rim 24-hr. Endurance Run 03/19/11 Longview WA 22:53 91 mi         Great weather, full "super moon" all night, lots of friends to hook up with during endless lake circling. Walked most of the last ~20 mi. Taping the balls of my feet seemed to help, after they got trashed on that gravel surface last year.
82 Invest in Youth 6-hr. 03/05/11 Machias WA 5:54:40 50 km         Trail went back & forth, back & forth many times, as did the weather (crazy hail storm - ouch!). Thanks to good stories from Jill & Cheri & frequent waves from all the other usual suspects along the path, the time went by quickly.
81 Cedar River Yours Truly #2 02/27/11 Landsburg WA 5:50:05 50 km         The beauty of the snow on the trail in spots sure outweighed the fact that it was a bit slippery & more slow-going at times. Thanks to Brian & wife Susan for their generosity in putting this on for us! Incredible homemade fare at the finish area!
80 First Call Presidents' Day 02/21/11 Bothell WA 4:53:02 Marathon         Just happy to finish, considering just spent 2 days recently with the crud/laryngitis & not enough energy to even walk to the mailbox! Chicken soup at the end hit the spot & was just what the doctor (Dr. Adrian Call) ordered! :)
79 West Seattle FA 50K 02/06/11 Seattle WA 5:45 32 mi     2   Fun day, except for some really windy sections that nearly brought me to a standstill. Enjoyed running and talking with Susie R. most of the first half. Big kudos to Nic and all the volunteers for all their help and for standing around in the wind.
78 Cedar River Yours Truly 50k 01/30/11 Landsburg WA 5:48:11 50 km         Perfect day for running, quiet reflection, enjoying the views of the river, & listening to tunes. Thanks Brian for organizing and wife Susan for providing great food at the finish!
77 Pigtails Run @ Lake Youngs 01/22/11 Renton WA 6:06:12 50 km         Sunny skies, muddy sections, lots of walk breaks, good company! Didn't turn in a good time, but had a good time.
76 Second Chance 01/02/11 Seattle WA 5:30:59 Marathon         Winter Triple: Day 3 - Completed my first Triple! Incredible views of the Olympics again today! Not crazy about the section by the RR tracks and what seemed like a total of 10 min. waiting for long traffic lights. Fun times w/ Jill, Marilou, Laura J., & Janice M.! Mighty weary those last 6 mi., but reached down deep.
75 First Call 01/01/11 Bothell WA 5:04:31 Marathon         Winter Triple: Day 2 - What a way to "brrrr-ing" in the New Year! Hung with Jill the whole race and Marilou for most of it, chatting when our frozen lips would let us speak. Spotted eagles and otters (& many other "animals" otherwise known as runners and Maniacs.)
74 Yukon Do It! 12/31/10 Port Orchard WA 4:58:04 Marathon         Winter Triple: Day 1 - Early a.m. fog lifted above the water to reveal stunning views of the Olympics. Stayed with Marilou all 26.2 & hooked up w/ George W. the last 9 mi. Slippery patches here & there. COLD day!
73 Pigtails Run 12/18/10 Landsburg WA 4:43:50 Marathon         Ma Nature created an obstacle course with all the downed limbs, branches, & trees from her overnight windstorm, esp. on the drive to the race, but also on parts of the course. Fun times on the first half, running & reminiscing with 3 gals from JJ 100. Love the beanie w/ race logo, Van!!!
72 Ghost of Seattle 11/27/10 Seattle WA 4:37:21 Marathon         No Quadzilla for me this holiday weekend - just an "Uno-zilla!" Fun day, great race organization, but couldn't hang around too long afterward as the teeth were chattering too much to talk.
71 First Call Veterans Day Marathon 11/13/10 Bothell WA 4:28:02 Marathon         Fun seeing all the friendly familiar faces along the double out-&-back trail. Missed seeing all the bald eagles, however. Felt better than expected 3 weeks post-100 miler. Thanks to Adrian and wife Marti (hot veggie soup at the end was grrreat!).
70 Javelina Jundred 10/23/10 Fountain Hills AZ 27:50:42 101.4 mi         First 100-miler!!! Two gorgeous sunrises with cacti silhouetted against the sky, 1 brilliant sunset illuminating the mtns., & 1 full moon shining over the desert - all during 1 race! FUN distraction seeing all the costumed runners, good chats with Jill during the first 100k of the race, & an incredible mixture of emotions at the finish!
69 Baker Lake 10/02/10 Concrete WA 7:11 50 km         The sun & splendid views of Mt. Baker popped out late morning. A day of fun but challenging trail running through huge fall leaves and slip-sliding over many slick bridges. Thanks Shawn (& Tony)!
68 Skagit Flats 09/12/10 Burlington WA 4:30:39 Marathon         Flat and paved was definitely different from last weekend! Felt really strong until about mile 16 when the headwinds got the best of me. Finally "smelled the barn" in more ways than one the last mile or so.
67 Roots Rock 50K 09/05/10 Port Gamble WA 6:47:53 50 km         Race VERY aptly named! Kept the eyeballs focused down at the trail & feet all day. Fun first loop w/ Jill, Karen, & Tracy. Friendly, supportive RD's & enthusiastic local x-country team members manning 1 aid station.
66 Redmond Watershed Marathon 08/28/10 Redmond WA 4:56:43 Marathon         Love these trails, but not crazy about the section under construction this summer with large loose rocks. Some confusion with course markings. Felt good even after putting in lots of miles on the hiking boots this week.
65 Transcendence 12-hour 08/15/10 Olympia WA 11:38 47.24 mi         Great inaugural event! Popsicles & buckets of icy sponges at the "oasis" (aid station) were heavenly on a 97 degree day!!! Fun to hook up with lots of different folks while looping the lake again & again & again...
64 "Tunnel" Marathon 07/25/10 North Bend WA 5:24:20 Marathon         TOASTY temps., but took 'er easy and enjoyed the beautiful views and wildflowers and the conversation with Jenny (& Marie for parts). Chili at the end hit the spot, even on an anything but chilly day! Thanks to RD's Brian & Susan - you thought of just about everything!
63 Bellevue Ghost 06/27/10 Bellevue WA 5:24:40 Marathon         Much more scenic course (hillier, too) than expected. Easy social pace with Jill (on day 2 of her double), my tour guide extraordinaire, pointing out places from days growing up there. Also enjoyed some miles with "Mare," Margaret, and Jim (from NY). Kudos to King Arthur for organizing!
62 Rainier to Ruston Rail-Trail Ultra (Walk) 06/05/10 Fairfax to Orting WA 7:28 28.5 mi         Sunshine, plenty of mud & muck, and good friends to walk with to celebrate National Trails Day and help fund further building of this scenic trail. Terrific race organization by Rob & Eric!
61 Watershed Preserve 12 Hr. 05/15/10 Redmond WA 8:30:45 37.6 mi         Cool canopy provided by trees lining the beautiful trails on a warm day, vast array of food at the aid station, & fabulous volunteers made for a good day! Opted to just go 7 loops & call it a day - took 38 min. off my time for same distance last yr.
60 Tacoma City Marathon 05/02/10 Tacoma WA 4:48:26 Marathon         How come when it's a windy day, it always seems to be more of a headwind than a tailwind?!?
59 Lumberjack 04/10/10 Port Gamble WA 13:22 50 mi         Awesome race organization, great shirt, & good variety of trails and fire roads. But, the mud sucked - both figuratively and literally!!! Think my eyes & nose ran more than me! Tough course - walked entire last loop when hips started to bark at me. Thanks for the company, Jenny, esp. when it got dark.
58 Pacific Rim 24 Hour 03/20/10 Longview WA 21:06 80 mi         Most miles I've ever covered in a day...and a long day (and night) it was! Decided to walk most of the last 25 mi. to avoid re-aggravating hip injury that's finally starting to heal. Special kudos to the lap-counters who sat out there all night long, keeping track of so many numbers!
57 Invest in Youth "Fund" Run 03/06/10 Machias WA 5:58 50 km         Another unseasonably warm "winter" day - thank you El Nino! Fun to share the entire journey with Jill!
56 Y Run Club Marathon 02/21/10 Puyallup WA 5:01:16 Marathon         Beautiful SUN-day in February for a run!
55 Call of the Wild Presidents Day Marathon 02/15/10 Bothell WA 5:03:39 Marathon         First marathon again after 6.5 mo. dealing with stubborn hip injury. Slow going and lots of walking still, but great to be out there again seeing so many friendly, enthusiastic runners & volunteers.
54 White River 50 Mi. Trail Run 07/25/09 Crystal Mtn. WA 13:33:03 50 mi         Tough long climbs, but rewarded with spectacular mountain views. Finished at the bottom of the list, but consoling myself with the fact I was the oldest female to finish within the cut-offs, on a day with a lot of DNF's.
53 Crescent Forest 07/18/09 Gig Harbor WA 5:34:07 27.4 mi         Fun trails and another great Barmore and Beyer production! Clever handmade wooden medal again this year, too! Slower time this year...tacked on a bit of mileage due to 1 missed turn; also feeling the effects of 85 total mi. on the feet this past wk. (including hiking miles in the North Cascades).
52 Light at the End of the Lack of Tunnel 06/14/09 North Bend WA 4:49:27 Marathon         Cool temps., cool shirt, cool medal! Huge thanks to Brian & family and all the volunteers for a superb race and lunch afterward!
51 Rainier to Ruston Rail-Trail walk 06/06/09 Fairfax to Orting WA 7:32 27.7 mi         Walked this event on National Trails Day to help support further building of this great trail and to join my husband in his quest for his first long-distance walk. Scenic trails, paralleled by the raging river for awhile - not too muddy this year. Fun to see the other relay team runners/walkers at times.
50 Blanchard Mountain Ultra 05/30/09 Alger WA 8:14 33 mi         Wish I had some mountain goat genes for this one!!! Fun day running/power hiking parts of course with Rob, Jenny, & Tracy. Great & challenging place to do my 50th marathon/ultra and move up to 6 MM stars by completing 31 races in 12 months!
49 Call of the Wild 05/23/09 Bothell WA 4:46:30 Marathon         Terrific organization for a small low-key race...hats off to Adrian & his wife! What a memorable Memorial Day weekend kick-off! Nice to have the rest of the trail open this time to avoid the double out 'n back.
48 Watershed Preserve 12 hr. 05/16/09 Redmond WA 9:08:12 37.6 mi         Beautiful, shaded trails! Awesome volunteers & aid station with SO many choices! Decided to walk the entire 7th loop and really enjoy the woods, after getting the 50K-ish distance in after the 6th loop. What a wonderful foundation that the race fees helped to support!
47 Tacoma City Marathon 05/03/09 Tacoma WA 5:01:10 Marathon         Just not my day...still some achy muscles, recovering from a lengthy cold, no oomph. Can't blame the weather though - it was perfect! Plenty of enthusiastic volunteers!
46 Yakima River Canyon Marathon 04/04/09 Ellensburg to Selah WA 4:53:59 Marathon         Definitely not a lot of pep-in-the-step, following mega miles recently at Pac Rim, but so worth it to run in the sun through the gorgeous canyon! I think the drive home over the pass was even more of a "marathon" due to lengthy avalanche control closures!
45 Pacific Rim One Day Run 03/21/09 Longview WA 18:47:10 75 mi     3   Fun LONG day and great support! Ran my first ever 100K distance (approx. 14.5 hrs.), then kept on going to reach 75 mi., but mostly walking by then.
44 Invest in Youth "Fund" Run 03/07/09 Machias WA 4:59 Marathon         Just didn't seem to be my day. Hip still not feeling real "hip." Decided to downsize and make it a slow training run, rather than go for all 6 hr. as originally intended. Nice trail and well organized event!
43 Yours Truly 50K (Cedar River) 02/22/09 Landsburg WA 6:06:08 50 km         Decided to run this venue in honor of a co-worker who lives right near the Cedar R. Trail and has run short distances there, after hearing just a few days ago he's facing a devastating diagnosis and has been told he'll never run again. (He had been hoping to run his first marathon after retiring in the near future.) Slower time today with trail detour and sore hip still, but a fun day. Thanks, Brian!!!
42 Valentines Marathon 02/08/09 Maytown WA 4:35: Marathon         The weather cooperated...my right hip flexor not so much. Still a fun day out there seeing so many friendly "repeat offenders."
41 West Seattle Fat Ass 50K 02/01/09 Seattle WA 5:27:55 50 km         Great views of Puget Sound & the Olympics in the distance. Fun to see the ferry crossings & lots of other distractions, too! Legs feeling the toll of 4 50K's in past 3 wks., but somehow managed to pull off a 50K PR by over 12.5 min. from last Jan. Many kudos to Nic as a first-time RD!
40 Yours Truly 50K (Cedar River) 01/25/09 Landsburg WA 6:15:09 50 km         My first double...what was I thinking tackling two 50k's for it?!? Beautiful day with freshly fallen snow on parts of the trail & trees. Thanks again, Jill, for the company (until mi. 20 when I lost steam) & the advice to help make the double "do-able!"
39 Pigtails 50K 01/24/09 Renton WA 5:47:27 50 km         Great day going up, down, and around...repeat. Ran entire course with Jill, psyching ourselves up for tomorrow's 50K. Thanks, Van, for the superb organization! Great to have the race support a local food bank.
38 Capitol Peak Mega Fat Ass 01/17/09 Littlerock WA 6:18 30 mi         Really enjoyed this trail - shrouded in fog at first, followed by sun filtering through the trees. Fun running through some snow up on the ridge and the mud, for awhile at least - but not so much the shoe-sucking mud. (Note to self: next time tie shoes tighter!)
37 First Call to Run 01/01/09 Bothell WA 5:48 50 km         Great way to start off the resolutions for '09! Saw eagles perched up in a tree and then heard The Eagles on my iPod! Thanks, Cat, for the company along the course!
36 Pigtails Flat Ass 12/20/08 Renton WA 4:59:30 Marathon         Fun, social, training-type run with Jenny (sporting frost-covered pigtails!), Rob, Steve, & Eric. Tough run due to the snow covered trails, but beautiful with snow-flocked trees everywhere. Memorable day to bump up to 5 MM stars! A HUGE thank-you to Van for organizing & to all the volunteers standing around in the 20-degree temps. for hours!
35 Ghost of Seattle Marathon 11/29/08 Seattle WA 4:31 Marathon         Lots of friendly familiar faces out there! Good variety of food at the aid stations and hot soup at the finish to 'gobble gobble' up!
34 Ron Herzog 50k 11/08/08 Granite Falls WA 6:02 32.2 mi         Tough course, &/or maybe just feeling the cumulative toll of 9 races in 11 wks. Loved the sound & sight of numerous waterfalls along the course! Race supported a worthy cause, & I ran it in memory of a friend's mom who succumbed to ALS after years of being totally immobile. Even when I hit a low around mi. 21-23, I reminded myself of how wonderful it is to still be able to move through space.
33 Tri-Cities 10/26/08 Richland WA 4:25:54 Marathon         Gorgeous fall day along the riverfront trails and crossing the Columbia R. via several bridges, but could've done w/o the headwinds. A big High-5 to Jill for achieving 7-star status today (and to Arthur for a BQ time)!
32 Port Gamble 50k (trail) 10/19/08 Port Gamble WA 6:19:48 50 km         Great course - varied combo of trails, forest roads, ups & downs, twists & turns, & scenery! PBJ's & assorted food at the aid stations really rocked. Homemade soup & cookies at the finish, too...and all of this for only a $10 race fee! Enjoyed chatting with Jill along the course. Met my goals of staying vertical & staving off leg cramps - felt strong in the final miles.
31 Royal Victoria 10/12/08 Victoria BC 4:24:07 Marathon       20/ 41 What better way to spend a birthday than running a marathon, esp. on a gorgeous fall day! Thoroughly enjoyed the sections through the park and the stretches bordering the ocean. Now, if only I could keep those stinkin' leg cramps at bay! Yay...a special shirt to fit women for a change! Fun city to explore!
30 Leavenworth 10/04/08 Leavenworth WA 4:36:48 Marathon       1/ 2 Loved seeing all the fall colors dotting the hillsides, even though legs were lead-like and close to cramping for many miles. Scenic sections along the river.
29 Baker Lake 50k Trail Run 09/20/08 Concrete WA 6:37:31 50 km         Stayed upright the entire race...yay! Lush green forests & ferns. Nice glimpses of Baker Lake...when you could take your vigilant eyeballs off the single track trails! Great camaraderie amongst runners, as we trail-hopped numerous times to let each other pass. Those Subway sandwiches at the end really hit the spot!
28 Timberline Trail 09/13/08 Mt. Hood OR 5:09:00 Marathon         Beautiful trails, but course was tougher with more uphill sections than expected. Rocks and roots necessitated some fancy footwork. Took my first spill (minor) in a race. Friends to talk with and share parts of the journey, balanced by times of solitude and reflection. Crossed the finish line in stride with Jenny!
27 Skagit Flats 09/07/08 Burlington WA 4:37:25 Marathon         Enjoyed the rural views. Mooo! Last-minute decision to run this, high mileage the week prior, and toasty temps. made for a slower time than hoped for. Bumped my Maniac stars up to 4 today, with this as 19th race in <12 mos.
26 Michelle's Grande Ass Marathon 08/31/08 Puyallup to Tacoma WA 4:38:08 Marathon         Fun morning of Starbucks-hopping to all the aid stations! Thanks, Jill (MM#535), for the company and good conversational pace! Thanks a latte to all the event organizers & volunteers!
25 Light @ the End of the Tunnel 08/17/08 Hyak to No. Bend WA 4:25:14 Marathon         Fun day despite the heat, but still glad to see the light at the end of the race at the finish line, as well as the light at the end of the tunnel! Great logo for the race shirt and finishers' medal - thanks to Brian's wife for the design!
24 White River 50 Mi. Trail Run 07/26/08 Crystal Mountain WA 13:12:58 50 mi         Decided to run this 2 nights before, so hadn't really trained or tapered well. Happy to finish within cut-off for early start. Steep humbling climbs, but worth it all to see the "drop-dead" gorgeous views (maybe not the best choice of words!). Superb organization! Great variety of food. Cheerful, accommodating volunteers!
23 Crescent Forest Trail Marathon 07/19/08 Gig Harbor WA 5:07:31 Marathon         Beautiful, shaded, well-marked trails with just enough ups & downs, twists & turns, and logs & roots to jump over to keep you alert and focused for 27+ mi. Clever idea for a homemade medal! Hats off to Bill & family for a "well-run" event!
22 Rattlesnake Lake Marathon 07/06/08 North Bend WA 4:38:12 Marathon         Really enjoyed the trail & views from the high trestles. Fun finish with 8 mi. of downhill - yeah, sometimes gravity is our friend! High-fives to RD's Brian and Monte & families for organizing, manning aid stations, & providing great food at the finish!
21 Lake Youngs Ultra 06/14/08 Renton WA 5:14 28.8 mi         First anniversary of my 1st ultra - the Lake Youngs Ultra last yr.! Shaved 14 mins. off my time, even though 3rd loop was tough. Superb organization, great variety of food at aid station, & yummy post-race BBQ! Great to have so much of the registration fees going to local food bank.
20 Newport Marathon 05/31/08 Newport OR 4:15:19 Marathon       6/ 15 Yay...got a BQ time, with a whopping 40 secs. to spare! Battled leg cramps from about mi. 22-24. Nice course; fun places to explore by the ocean the day after.
19 Tacoma City Marathon 05/10/08 Tacoma WA 4:29:44 Marathon       2/ 6 Great running weather. Friendly & abundant volunteers! Took almost 21 mins. off of last year's time, even though the hills sure didn't seem any flatter this time around! Thanks to all the race/volunteer coordinators from MM and Fleet Feet!
18 Mt. Si 50 miler 04/13/08 Snoqualmie WA 10:50:06 50 mi         My first 50 miler...yippee! Just excited to finish within the cut-off time & without any major problems. Fun distraction seeing all the relay runners. Lots of snow-capped peaks in the distance & perfect running weather. Helpful, encouraging aid station volunteers! Nice fleece vest with entry.
17 Dizzy Daze 03/29/08 Seattle WA 5:53 32.2 mi         Fun day getting "loopy" on 10 laps (32.2 miles) around Green Lake, while trying to dodge lots of mud puddles. Well-stocked aid station. Thanks to Margaret, good friend and fellow MM, who ran part with me!
16 Easter Marathon 03/22/08 Maytown WA 4:26:16 Marathon         Out-&-back course X2. Felt great except for miles 23-25 when leg cramps were threatening, necessitating more walk breaks. Finished feeling strong (but like one tired bunny!).
15 Des Moines Creek 6 hr. Trail Run 03/01/08 Des Moines WA 5:44:41 28.4 mi         Fairly tame trails, but with a ton of twists & turns to keep you alert. The serenity spoiled only by being right under the flight path near the airport! Achieved goal of 4 marathons/ultras in 6 wks. to move up to 3 stars.
14 Yours Truly 50k-Cedar River 02/24/08 Landsburg WA 5:43:20 50 km         Beautiful weather and trails! Sure seemed like a long upgrade to the aid station at the turn-around on top though. My husband joined me for part of it on his mountain bike.
13 Valentine Marathon 02/10/08 Maytown WA 4:35:40 Marathon         The weatherman was wrong and the rains held off! Well-spaced aid stations and gentle terrain. Decent pace the first 1/2, but needed frequent walk breaks the last few mi. to forestall leg cramps.
12 3rd Annual Pigtails Run 01/26/08 Renton WA 5:40:39 50 km         Fun day running through frozen mud, then slippery mud at times. Rained the last loop - snow would've been beautiful out there. Just can't seem to master the negative split thingy.
11 Pigtails Flat Ass 12/22/07 Renton WA 5:52:07 50 km         My first 50K+ (31.74 mi.)! Think the race should have been named the Pigtails Deluge, however. Thanks to all the friendly volunteers out there in the relentless rain and cold!
10 Ghost of Seattle Marathon 11/24/07 Seattle WA 4:36:08 Marathon         Good running buddies, scenic course, & great variety of food at the aid stations. Chilly day (and chili to eat at the finish)!

8 Lake Youngs Ultra 06/09/07 Renton WA 5:28:00 28.8 miles         My first ultra..yay! Great organization for a small race, scrumptious post-race burgers, and a technical shirt designed to fit women.
7 Tacoma City Marathon 05/13/07 Tacoma WA 4:50:02 Marathon       4/ 5 A good time in life to set a new goal of becoming a Marathon Maniac. An inaugural local race, good friend Rob as volunteer coordinator, and wonderful running partner Margaret to run the distance alongside me...what else could you ask for?!? (well except fewer hills and less wind!)
6 Eugene Marathon 04/29/07 Eugene OR 4:53:47 Marathon       9/ 37 Absolutely beautiful course along the river, superb weather, and lots of good friends out there running. Just happy to be able to run the distance again, after nearly 2 years of intermittent injuries. Bad leg cramps the last 6 mi. or so - lots of walking.
5 Boston Marathon 04/18/05 Boston MA 5:42:27 Marathon       554/ 559 Pulled a hammie about 10 days prior to Boston...bad timing, BIG bummer! Had to hobble nearly the entire course, but was determined to cross the finish line no matter what.
4 Portland Marathon 10/03/04 Portland OR 3:59:00 Marathon       18/ 299 Another Boston qualifying time and first sub-4 marathon!

2 Rock 'N' Roll Arizona 01/11/04 Phoenix AZ 4:23:19 Marathon       45/ 323 Great place to run a marathon in Jan., especially after a bunch of snow at home in WA just days prior to leaving for AZ.
1 Honolulu Marathon 12/08/02 Honolulu HI 4:16:22 Marathon       46/ 910 Wanted my first marathon to be somewhere special and had never been to Hawaii. Hmmm...good excuse to go there!
