90 second from the finish line--after I had passed the 26 mile mark, terrorists brought fear back to my life. They seek to maim the human spirit and life, but I stand Boston Strong. The terrrorists have taken far too much from me. I had been invited to run to honor my husband who had been assassinated by a terrorist. No more. Not this girl. I choose to stand stong and I choose to stand up. I am just a simple girl who loves polka dots, God, her country, and her military family. I run on! |

Worst race EVER. Don't do it. I signed up three months early. The start was moved, but this was not communicated via e-mail or at race packet pick-up. The course intersected at two points during each three mile loop. runners were playing chicken with each other. Water tables were not manned after two hours and people stood around the table making it impossible to get to drinks. Cranky! |

Let's see. Where to begin? I started on antibiotics on Wednesday for bronchitis, an ear infection, and a sinus infection. MY pills that I have to take when I run due to a medical problem? Well...let's jsut say that the baggie developed a hole in it. There I was at mile 12 knowing that I was missing pills at mile 12, 16, 20, and 24. At mile 24.3, I developed severe diarrhea and nausea. I stopped for one looong potty stop and I walked three short times. Mile 24.3-25.1 took me 25 minutes. I was able to finish the last mile strong. Big consolation. Laugh |

Wow--very, very, hot, humid, and hilly. I loved the race. One predicts one's finishing time and starts that much before midnight. I started with a generous allotment. The course was really hard. The last two hours were in the total pitch darkness. The average runner runs 30-90 minutes slower than usual. I am sorer than I have been in a really long time!I am woman, hear me roar! |

Ran an extra lap due to the glitch in the timing system. 43 minute break due to severe cramping, but I loved this race!
I ran a marathon today . While I cruised through the first 20 miles with a smile on my face, I struggled through the next four miles. At times I was on the ground incapacitated by cramps so severe that every nerve and sinew poked up on my legs. Race volunteers wanted to call an ambulance, but I knew that one way or another I could finish the journey. I might have to stop for a while, crawl for a while, walk three miles (I did), or even walk backwards, but I knew that some how, some way my body would make it to the finish line. Maybe a little worse for the wear and tear, but still I could make this journey. Life is like that.
I know I want and even expect things to go well. My life often does go well which is why I am surprised when unexplainable hard times happen. Yet, hard times are a fact of life. How we react defines who we are as people. Whether we lie on the ground waiting to be revived so that we can carry on, or whether we give up says a lot about who we are as people.
I do not have the internal fortitude to push through pain and tragedy on my own. In my brokenness, I want to raise the white flag of surrender, but somewhere in the black raging sea tentacles that grab me, hands are reached, faith is found, and I stumble yet again to my feet. I look forward only to the next step because to look at the whole journey would be too much to bear.
I may lay on the ground crying and unable to get to my feet for awhile, but in the silent corners of my heart, I fall to my faith. It may take awhile, and I may have to crawl or walk awhile, but like today, I find myself running and cruising the placid seas again. While I am not yet in complacency mode, and while I often feel invisible, broken, and like giving up, I know...I believe that God is carrying me on this journey and that I am finding myself. In the process, I am finding joy and purp |

Personal worst by far. I fell on the first lap and hyper extended my knee and tore part of my miniscus. I walked most of the second half (all of the last ten). I have never hurt so bad in my life. Went to an orthopedic surgeon and got a brace, but it is going to take awhile to recover. Sadness. |
