This was to be my first attempt at 100 miles. I was well prepared & fired up. The day started out great & the weather was perfect. I was an hour ahead of my scheduled "drop dead" pace (17.59 min/mile. At some point (maybe mile 30), I thought I felt a hot spot on my left foot. I should have listened. At the 1/2 way point (50 miles) I found that I had a huge blister on bottom of my left foot. It was practiclaly the entire ball of my foot (OUCH!). The ole' doc patched me up & I was back out. I wasn in for about 45 minutes & my body temperature dropped. I got back out & was shivering uncontrollably. BY now, I was right on schedule & could not afford any more breaks & I had to keep running. With my foot trash & the temperatures dropping, I decided to hang it up for another day. My only saving grace was that I bested my 50 mile time by an hour! |

This was a fabulous 10 km loop[ course winding between Goldbar PArk & Rundle Park in beautiful Edmonton, Alberta. The mornign of the race was a bit damp but the temperature was perfect - 15 C. As the day went on, the clouds left & the sun came out making for a perfect running day. |

This race started way too late (2:30 PM) & in the winter, it gets dark early. As it got dark, the traffic control got sparce & al lthat was left were street cones. Just prior to crossing an intersection, a truck plowed right through (3) cones without batting an eye. The marathon distance was 8 LOOPS!. As the distance goes up, I'm not sure that I can remember to count that high. I actually lost track & had to ask someone just ahead of me how may loops we had completed. It was chip timed (sort of), but the only time recorded was your final finishing time. There was no lap times. Although the race directors & volunteers were GREAT, I am not sure that I will do another multi-loop course in the winter that is an afternoon start. |

Great course & gerat weather. It was cool & misty & in the 50's early on & warmed up into the 60's bu the end of the race. This year's course was changed a bit to run through some of the beautiful stately homes around mid-town. Unfortunately this is where they added in all the hills. None-the-less, it was a great race. |

This was a great course, one of a few that go through a national wildlife reserve. PLENTY of hills as it was in the Wichita Mountain WIldlife Refuge. We saw bufffalo, long horn steer & someone spotted a huge tarantula. |

IT WAS HOT! A record 103 F in the sun. Good thing that the 99.9% of the trail run was under tree cover. I orignally was in for the 50 miler but as the day wore on (& the heat rose), I cut down to the 40 miler & then finally to the 50 Km. I would rather be safe than sorry & live to run & race again - HEALTHY! It was a beautiful trail on nicely maintained mountain bike trails. |

This wa a totally AWESOME race. Fabulously scenic. It started off on dirt roads. then from miles 5 to 13 were uphill. Then into the mountains & back down hill. From mile 21 to 23 it was the "sand pit"; loose sand! Great finish. Several of the Bataan POWs were present along the course & at the finish. |

WOW! What a course. At mile 4, the 1 mile climb up Pinnacle Mtn. took me an hour! At times, I thought of the movie Deliverance when I was out in the woods alone. Great race though with great support & a nice hand made finsher's medal. |

Nice course but lonely in spots. Running by the Garmin plant, I would have thought that they would have been out in support of the marathon. |
