Nice cool but sunny day to start. Ran a good first half for me, but stomach wasn't agreeing with me on the second. eeek'ed out a PR by a few minutes with two pitstops, so I guess a silver lining. Not a ton of maniacs, probably because of Tacoma today. And no beer aid station, what a bummer. PS-That bridge at 24 (and 7 miles earlier the other way) sucks. |

Battling injuries, under-training, the allure of the "fastest course in the west" at CIM drew me in after sickness DNF'd me in Portland 2010.
Ran a pretty good half for me (2:05 - been training halfs at 1:52), but the rolling hills and just a crappy day zonked me. Legs seized up the worst I've ever experienced on the 2nd half, the beer aid station at mile 21 couldn't even save me this time.
Maybe time for time off to heal some ice hockey/running combination injuries that have been nagging for 2 years now. |

Perfect cold weather, the 4 in 4 Iridium quest is complete! 3rd PR in 4 weeks, didn't feel good miles 12-16, but battled late. Beer aid station at mile 24 did the job! Revised course this year, running 13-26 essentially backwards, I think it was much better course including new waterfront 23.5-24. Only fault is pesky bridge congestion at mile 2. Saw a Maniac FAMILY cheering from the sidelines at mile 16.5 and 17.5, thanks guys! |

1st successful 3 in 3 weeks, ran another PR by 3 minutes since 2 weeks ago in Bellingham. Was 29 degrees at start but dry. Great day! A HUGE shout out to Maniac #1386 John from Texas (I hope that's right) who found my Maniac singlet in the crowd at about mile 4 and ran with me all the way to about 22. Thanks man, I enjoyed the chat and you really helped pace me through my 3rd in 3 weeks. |

Obviously didn't fuel myself this week after the hills in Bellingham last week. Very fatigued miles 15-21, a little clearer head on the way in. One toe is hurting and quite ugly, 2 down and 2 to go (hopefully) in my 2nd - 4 in 4 weeks attempt (a.k.a. Quest for Iriduim), toes brought me down last try. Spoke briefly with Paul Medal guy again and an anonymous Maniac from the midwest (Indiana I think), of course LOTS of maniac waves and fist bumps. Didnt see the Widmer Beer Aid Station at 24 this year, must have caused me to be slow. |

Lots of Maniacs. Lonely run after the half marathon split if you are a slowpoke like me.
Wasn't feeling the greatest but PR'd. Was not prepared for the gravel and hills in the 2nd half of the course... My feet no like-ee the gravel.
Saw Maniac #1658's comment about beer stop at mile 23. I think I was a few minutes ahead of her. Nice family at beer stop said I was first man or woman Maniac to enjoy a beer. What gives? I train with beer... LOTS of beer... embrace the beer, be the beer!!! |

2nd in 2 weeks, the toes were hurting from the wet Portland race but managed ok. The ankle injury from ice hockey seems to be holding together. In general I like this course, but it's rather crowded for the first 9 miles or so on the scenic but narrowing course along the marina and beach walkway. Slight course change this year through UCLB that does make it more out and back but if you ran the prior years desolate miles 15-20 you know you didn't miss anything. The students were out in force cheering loud even for the slow pokes like me - it was a nice distraction. Beer aid station at mile 20, VERY nice. |

Coming off bad ankle injuries from slapshots in ice hockey. Ouch! Last training miles were over a month ago! Ouch! Ran a bit with Maniac #719 aka Medal Guy Paul. Feet suffered in wet conditions, toes looked like raisins. Guess I'm way too slow! Enjoyed a half pint of Widmer at their impromptu aid station at mile 24! |

Great scenic course, great course support for water and powerade, decent number of fans. Made a 3 point jump shot at the hoop near mile 20 near Cal Long Beach campus. Saw about 5 maniacs that said hi - thanks for the encouragement with my first back to back weekends. Serious bonkage! |

Heat index above 90's! Ran with friend and aspiring maniac Karl. Race ran out of Water or Gatorade for slower runners or people in back of coral. Course officials shut the course down halfway through and made people walk back to finish line. Epic! The Chicago Death March! |
