141 Seattle Marathon 11/25/12 Seattle WA 4:07:27 Marathon         Ouch!Ouch!Ouch!, but I got it done. Got a shout out from the Prez at the finish. Love that guy!
140 First Call Veterans Day 50K 11/10/12 Bothell WA 5:41:37 50 km         Ran with good thoughts for all veterans and their families. Thanks Adrian!
139 In Unity We Run 11/04/12 Kent WA 4:10:20 Marathon         Ai yai yai; survival shuffle mode for the last 6. Out of the gate too fast, lesson learned again. Thank you Green River Steve for organizing!
138 Pigtails Challenge 05/26/12 Renton WA 28:14 100 mi         My 1st 100 miler, what a challenge it was. The week before the race Tamae Watanabe, a 73 year old woman, climbed Mt.Everest. She would be one of my inspirations to get this 100 miler checked off my bucket list. Early on I ran with Mike Schlecht, then with Martin Barvuso in the middle, and a bit with Kate Moyer and daughter/pacer Jen MM #29 at night; they are all superb runners. The aid stations had everything you needed, and someone was always there to fill my water bottle and offer encouragement. The best refill was by Steve Stoyles who packed some ice in my water bottle during the hottest part of the race. So refreshing! All of the volunteers were terrific; from Takeo Suzuki taking photos, Michelle Barnes finding me a 1/4 piece of sandwich, TP #3 being a sounding board, and Ray "Macgyver" Shaw offering his support. Van Phan, I can't thank you enough. You and Ken did a great job with the Pigtails Challenge Events, and congratulations on your 200 mile run. As for me I think I'm one-and-done as far as 100 milers go, but you never know. I'll always remember running to the finish line with Jen, and seeing her husband Matt and their daughter and my granddaughter Sula. I learned a lot from this 100 mile run, and will cherish the Pigtails buckle.
137 BMO Vancouver Marathon 05/06/12 Vancouver BC 3:44:36 Marathon         New marathon course in 2012 drew me back to Vancouver. Ran with Jon Mahoney (his 400th marathon) for a bit in the 2nd half, but I could not keep up with "steady Eddy". The man is a machine!
136 Boston Marathon 04/16/12 Boston MA 4:20:13 Marathon         High heat, ouch! There were many inspiring runners out there. No excuses. Onward.
135 Yakima River Canyon Marathon 03/31/12 Ellensburg-Selah WA 3:48:57 Marathon         Bob Dolphin, he's the man, tough as nails! One of these years I'll do more hill training before YRCM; but I say that every year. I beat my time from 2011 (3:50 + -), which was one of my goals.
134 Chuckanut 50K 03/17/12 Bellingham WA 7:09:24 50 km         "The miracle isn't that I finished. The miracle is that I had the courage to start", my mantra for the day. Zen moments along the way, but man that was a grind.
133 Woolley Trail Runs 02/18/12 Sedro Woolley WA 5:06:56 50 km         Man, I was at zero mentally and physically before this run. So glad I showed up because I got so much (endorphins plus) after finishing this one. Had to "be like Mike" and kept up with MM Mike Mahanay. Kudos to RD Terry, and the aid station volunteers who battled inclement weather.
132 West Seattle Fat Ass 02/05/12 Seattle WA 5:19 50 km         Energized by sun, ocean, and mountains. Day like this is why I love living in Seattle. Thanks to RD Nic and volunteers.
131 First Chance Marathon 01/01/12 Seattle WA 4:01:30 Marathon         I'd like to whine, but as my favorite Seahawk coach Chuck Knox used to say "No one wants to hear your sad story". Thanks Steve Walters for organizing a marathon ten minutes from home. Well done event.
130 Seattle Marathon 11/27/11 Seattle WA 3:52:59 Marathon         Ran with MM #34 Steve Supkoff for most of the race, his 100th marathon, until he got his 2nd wind right before the Madison hill. I was toast. Hooray to all who ran!
129 First Call Veterans Day 11/12/11 Bothell WA 5:31 50 km         Another superb First Call event by Dr. Call and the volunteers. A day to remember and appreciate all of the veterans.
128 Royal Victoria Marathon 10/10/11 Victoria BC 3:45:38 Marathon         Blue sky day. This course works for me; moderate downhills and a few "ups". Heard both Kathrine Switzer and Bart Yasso give their inspiring words of wisdom/inspiration at the expo. I ran my first sub-4 here 10 years ago.
127 Transcendence Ultra 12-hr Endurance Run 08/14/11 Olympia WA 12:00 50.28 mi         50.289 miles in 10:32. After 50 miles, no mas!,no mas! Great aid station, support staff, and organization.
126 First Call Summer 50K 08/06/11 Bothell WA 5:26:06 50 km         The wheels came off for the last 5 miles. Not pretty but I got it done. Super organized event by the Dr.Call and all the volunteers.
125 Vashon Island Ultra & Trail Run 06/18/11 Vashon WA 6:15:45 50 km         My favorite sections were running thru the evergreen rain forests. Well organized race, with great support and aid, and a cool medal. Saw fellow MM's Karen Wiggins, Susie Ro, and Monte Pasqual; all running strong.
124 Newport Marathon 06/04/11 Newport OR 3:56:46 Marathon         I was hoping to do better, but very happy to finish with a sub 4. Had a great weekend in Newport and Portland with my better half - Molly. I'll be back Newport!
123 Tacoma City Marathon 05/01/11 Tacoma WA 3:49:36 Marathon         Felt a bit disheveled from miles 15-19, but got a bit of a 2nd wind from 20-24. Nice! Love the downhill finish. Tried straight salt midway, no tightening in the calfs today. My 5 year streak at TCM continues. Much thanks to TP and all of your volunteers; well done!
122 Yakima River Canyon Marathon 04/02/11 Ellensburg-Selah WA 3:50:24 Marathon         If only the tail wind could have lasted the entire 2nd half. Great to see so many MM's. Especially nice to catch up with MM David Jones; he's running again after heart valve surgery. Thank you Lenore, Bob, and all of your volunteers!
121 Big Island International Marathon 03/20/11 Hilo HI 3:53:02 Marathon         My first marathon in my home state. This was a memorable race having family there at the finish. I'll cherish this one.
120 Cedar River Yours Truly 02/27/11 Ravensdale WA 6:05 50 km         I really had to suck it up, and get it done. I guess the Woolley Trail Run last week took a bit out of me. After being out in the snow, slush, and rain we were rewarded with hot hearty soup, crusty bread, sweet potatoes, granola, and a brownie. Sweeet! The Pendletons are very cool. Thank you!!
119 Woolley Trail Runs 02/19/11 Sedro Woolley WA 5:22 50 km         This is relatively flat and straight course, but it's still tough going. Great being out in the country; it was cold but sunny. Plenty of post race grub and treats. Thanks Terry, Kevin, all all of the volunteers!
118 Cedar River Yours Truly 01/30/11 Ravensdale WA 5:26 50 km         Post race meal (hot lentils, sweet potato, etc.) really hit the spot. Thanks Brian, and to your crew as well!
117 Pigtails Run 01/22/11 Renton WA 5:13 50 km         Mirrored my time of 2010. Felt in control on the first two loops, faded on No. 3 +, and elated to finish. Well done event by Van and Ken, thank you!
116 Pigtails Flat Ass 12/18/10 Ravensdale WA 5:12 50 km         The Pigtails beanie will be a collector's item, very cool. Much thanks to Van and the support crew! MM Mike Mahanay helped me thru a bad patch, thanks brother.
115 Seattle Marathon 11/28/10 Seattle WA 3:40:15 Marathon         Forgot my timing chip. + - 3:40:15 gun time. Daughter Jen, MM #29, got 3rd female with a 3:11!
114 Tri Cites Marathon 10/31/10 Richland WA 3:41:56 Marathon         I didn't hit my goal time, but hung in there for a BQ. I might try an ipod next year to get your mind off the headwinds. Running along the mighty Columbia River with blue skies above, that's a pretty good day in the NW.
113 Winthrop Marathon 09/26/10 Winthrop WA 3:38:45 Marathon         The spectacular scenery was worth the long drive to Winthrop. I was on goal pace for 20 miles, but got beat up by the rolling hills in the last few miles. It's not how you start, but how you finish. Gotta keep working on the last 10K.
112 Grand Ridge 50K 08/07/10 Issaquah WA 6:41:32 50 km         The most hills I've run/walked in a race this year. Fortunately you're running on trails in a NW forest of mature evergreen trees; there was cool temperatures; and even some showers in the afternoon. I missed a cutoff and did an extra green loop on the first go-around, but I compensated the 2nd time around. I had one fall and 2-3 stumbles, which is worse because you're all freaked out trying to catch your balance. This one was more of a challenge than I had anticipated, however the runner's high you get after you finish is worth it.
111 Vashon Island Ultramarathon and Trail Run 06/26/10 Vashon WA 5:39:39 50 km         Man, this was an outstanding inaugural run. The course was mostly rolling forest trails, and intermingled were gravel roads and some asphalt. I've never seem as much wild huckleberry in a NW forest as on Vashon Island, but no ripe berries yet. Kudos to the enthusiastic volunteers, aid station crews, and race organizers. MM Nic Plemel (No.7 finisher) navigated me back to Seattle. I hope to run this again next year.
110 Lake Youngs Ultra 06/12/10 Renton WA 4:51 28.8 mi         Daughter Jen paced me for a couple of loops. Great post-race eats. Thank you King Arthur and Jennifer!
109 First Call Spring Run Off 50K 05/22/10 Bothell WA 4:54:55 50 km         The cool spring day made for ideal running conditions. Dr. and Mrs. Call and their crew do a great job with support, treats, and organization. The Prez, No.1, was there too!
108 Tacoma City Marathon 05/02/10 Tacoma WA 3:44:38 Marathon         Ran with the 3:45 pace group led by MM Steve #34. I had a couple of bad patches, but pressed to hang in there. The aid/GU stations were "money". Nice going MM Tom, you did it brother. Thanks MM's Marc, Nic, Tom, and Steve for letting me draft behind you when we hit that head wind. TCM is becoming one of the best organized marathons. Thanks TP!
107 Boston Marathon 04/19/10 Boston MA 3:38:54 Marathon         What a thrill to be able to show up and run the same course as the current and former elites.
106 Yakima River Canyon Marathon 03/27/10 Ellensburg-Selah WA 3:37:36 Marathon         I really enjoy the ambience of this marathon. No 2nd half surge this year, but no significant bonk either. Post race endorphin rush, yes!
105 Invest In Youth 6 hr. Fund Run 03/06/10 Machias WA 5:19 31.9 mi         "Hit the wall" at 30, but felt no pain after RD Kendall's post race grilled cheese sandwich.
104 West Seattle Fat Ass 50K 02/07/10 Seattle WA 4:54:48 50 km         Very scenic run at Lincoln Park, along Beach Drive and Alki Beach. Great support from RD Nic and the volunteers. Thank you!
103 Pigtails Run 01/23/10 Renton WA 5:13 50 km         Thanks Van and Ken, I appreciate your efforts putting on this winter run. Saw two deer, and many happy MM's.
102 Bridle Trails 50K 01/09/10 Kirkland WA 6:27:50 50 km         I plugged along, but nothing like some of these veteran trail runners. Got lapped by MM's Terry, Arthur, Shawn, Kendall, Francis; and others that I could not recognize in the dark. What the hell! Good seeing all the MM's. Congratulations to all who ran, and thanks to Glen T. who recorded our times.
101 Pigtails Flat Ass 12/19/09 Ravensdale WA 5:12:49 50 km         Loved the sections running along the Cedar River, and on the bridges over the river. Cool finisher's medal Van, thank you!
100 Seattle Marathon 11/29/09 Seattle WA 3:37:44 Marathon         Had the whole family out along the course cheering, including granddaughters Tessa 2 yrs, and Sula 2 weeks. Gotta love this hometown marathon with all fan support, great volunteers, and MM's. More hill training prep next year could benefit this grandpa.
99 Carkeek 12 Hour 10/31/09 Seattle WA 7:44:00 32.81 mi         Running on the trails in Carkeek Park at dawn was very cool. Tough course and grueling day though. Thanks Sam and Brock!
98 Portland Marathon 10/04/09 Portland OR 3:39:35 Marathon         After bonking at Skagit, I fueled up pre-race to the max. No bonk this time. Fun times being part of the entourage of Bob Dolphin's 80th birthday and his 452nd marathon.
97 Skagit Flats Marathon 09/13/09 Burlington WA 3:50:13 Marathon         I had a game plan, but sometimes it doesn't play out. Oh man, it was survival shuffle for the last 10K. But hey, you show up and take a shot. I need to take a lesson from MM's David Jones and Mike Wakabayashi and be more patient. Those guys are steady from 1-26.2. I got to see Stan, the man, the legend, finish his 300th. Thanks to RD Terry,Skagit Runners, and all the volunteers for the 1st class support.
96 Rock & Roll Seattle 06/27/09 Tukwila-Seattle WA 3:45:26 Marathon         It was a tough day, each mile was a grind. MM Thomas Tan gave me some encouragement at mile 25 when I was toast. I was so happy to see the finish line.
95 Lake Youngs Ultra 06/13/09 Renton WA 5:25:15 50 km         The post race grilled chicken sandwich hit the spot. Thanks to King Arthur and the support crew.
94 Green River Marathon 06/06/09 Kent-Alki Beach WA 3:45:32 Marathon         Big bonk at mile 24, but I got her done. Daughter Jen met me at the half, and we finished together. Thank you RD Steve, RD Jim, and all of the volunteers. Well done!
93 Newport Marathon 05/30/09 Newport OR 3:32:56 Marathon         Ideal NW destination marathon. On the ocean and back bay, a very peaceful setting. Met up with the Dolphins, Rick "Road Kill" Haase, and Bob Hearn at the pasta dinner. On the course I never got into a groove, but was able to run my best time so far in 2009. Newport is very good to me.
92 Tacoma City Marathon 05/03/09 Tacoma WA 3:44:38 Marathon         There were a few subtle changes in the course this year, and you still get the grand tour of Tacoma. I ran with the 3:45 pace group led by super pacer Steve MM #34. TP and the volunteers are to be commended for their efforts.
91 Boston Marathon 04/20/09 Boston MA 3:36:13 Marathon         A long time goal finally accomplished. Daughter Jen ran too, along with future grandchild No.2. I don't get to Boston without my weekend training group (MM's #29 Jen, #34 Steve, #60 Ruben, #61 Kurt, #71 Eric, #167 May, et al). Thanks also to MM's #1, #2, and #3 for giving me the marathon bug, and encouraging me all these years. My hat's off to all of you and the MM gang.
90 Yakima River Canyon Marathon 04/04/09 Ellensburg-Selah WA 3:35:26 Marathon         My favorite marathon in WA state. Got a 2nd wind at mile 20, but by mile 25 the surge was kaput. Daughter Jen won her age group. What an impressive presence by all of the MM's at the prerace dinner, and on the course.
89 Chuckanut Mountain 50K 03/21/09 Bellingham WA 6:19 50 km         Running Chuckanut is seeing nature in the NW at its best. I duplicated my 2008 finish time, and felt much better at the end this time around.
88 Invest In Youth 6 hr. Run 03/07/09 Machias-Lake Stevens WA 5:07 31.9 mi         Loved being out in the country. I brought a bunch of extra gear fearing wet and cold, but amazingly the rain/snow held up. I ran solo for most of day, and saw many MM's. RD Kendall and his crew do a great job with support and goodies.
87 Pigtails Run 50K 01/24/09 Renton WA 4:50 50 km         No significant bad patches. Another superb effort by RD Van and Ken, and for a worthy cause.
86 Bridle Trails 50K 01/09/09 Bellevue-Kirkland WA 6:13:43 50 km         I just didn't have it on loops 3 and 5, but got a "second wind" on 6. If the temperature got any lower it would have been touch-and-go if I finish this wet and cold mudfest.
85 Seattle Marathon 11/30/08 Seattle WA 3:38:13 Marathon         Running on fumes at the end, I should have grabbed a Krispy Kreme donut at the Roanoke Street aid station. 2010 BQ.
84 Carkeek 12 hour 11/01/08 Seattle WA 8:20 32.81 mi         This was my first time running in Carkeek Park, and I live only 10-15 minutes away. This run had it all; great fall colors, views of Puget Sound, and perfect trails. I was expecting a mudfest. Thanks RD's Sam and Brock!
83 Skagit Flats Marathon 09/07/08 Burlington WA 3:43:47 Marathon         Went out too optimistic early on, and paid dearly. What was I thinking! On the plus side, what a great medal and finisher shirt; and good to see so many MM's. Thanks RD Terry and all of your crew.
82 The Light At The End Of The Tunnel 08/17/08 Hyak - North Bend WA 3:43:19 Marathon         Very scenic trail marathon in the NW Cascades. The Pendletons and their crew did an excellent job putting on this marathon.
81 Seafair Marathon 06/29/08 Seattle-Bellevue WA 3:49:48 Marathon         For me, it was a tough course to get into a rhythm. With the heat and all, to finish this marathon felt amazingly special.
80 Newport Marathon 05/28/08 Newport OR 3:31:10 Marathon         PR! I'll cherish this one, plus my better half (Molly) being there too made it special.
79 Tacoma City Marathon 05/10/08 Tacoma WA 3:43:41 Marathon         Oh man, miles 21 to 24 almost broke me. Ran with the 3:45 pace group led by super pace-leader MM Steve Supkoff.
78 Yakima River Canyon Marathon 04/05/08 Ellensburg-Selah WA 3:43:59 Marathon         The hills seemed less daunting this time around, but you still have to grind them out. YRCM is one of my favorite marathons. Being a country boy at heart, its like going home. Thanks Lenore & Bob.
77 Chuckanut Mountain 50K 03/15/08 Bellingham WA 6:19:15 50 km         A physically and mentally challenging run, but at the same time an exhilarating experience. Bonked at Lost Lake; not ideal with Chinscraper looming ahead. Refueled and recovered,I made it back to the barn.
76 Birch Bay Marathon 02/17/08 Blaine WA 3:42:03 Marathon         Shifted to the survival shuffle for the last few miles. What a beautiful crystal clear blue sky day in the NW. Also saw a great bald eagle.
