It snowed like 3 inches the night before this one. Flat course. No spectators. Fun event. Had major foot trouble.. should have never started this one but you know how that goes. |

Hilly course. Disliked the 1/2 marathon start which occurred 1:45 after the full start. Was physically pushed by several re-layers who were rude. Unfortunately saw a college boy collapse near mile 25. Later found he died. Was sad. |

If you love hills this course is for you. Well run inaugural event. The course kicked my rear and took my name. Too many hills for my liking.. had a hard time getting into a rhythm |

7 loops through community park. Incredibly flat considering the Boone elevation. Water every mile. Well done low key event. Seemed like 1/2 the field were Maniacs. Free marathons don't get any better. Well done Matt. Thanks for having me. |

Part one of the June 12th double. Ran a smooth easy pace. Felt great. Wish they all would come this easy. 22nd overall. Fun event. Hatfield / McCoy skit was funny. No spectators but lots of water stops by the locals. I jokingly asked for beer at one of the stops and the old lady said : "honey.. you must not be from around here.. cause we don't drink beer.. we drink bourbon." |

Hilly, well run event. Rock star finish on the 50 yard line of the University of Tennessee Football Stadium. Final 6 miles were bone chilling. Front came through and dropped the temperature down into the low 40's with pouring rain and lots of wind. Was super cold. Ran the day after PR'ing at the 10k distance. Didn't train. This was the beginning of my maniac qualifying quest. |

First Marathon. Pulled calf muscle at mile 9. Way too stubborn to ever DNF. Plodded along the next 17 miles very slowly. By mile 22 was sitting on the curb wondering how to even move forward. Did a alien looking stride all the way to the finish line. The movie "The Spirit of the Marathon" summed it up the best by saying something like "once you cross that finish line.. your life will never be the same". |

After my 2006 marathon debut struggle.. I truly wanted redemption at the distance / course. About a month away from the race.. I decided to enter the 1/2 Marathon but during the online registration I noticed the full was only like 15 more dollars than the 1/2. I opted for the Full (better value) I then squeezed in a painful 20 miler and toed the line on race day. It was ugly. |

Solid race until mile 18 then the dreaded calf cramps visited me. Gutted out a finish. |

Part two of the June 12th double. 10 hour timed event around a 1/2 mile horse track in Paducah KY. Finished goal of running 50k+ and then took a nap. Slight banking on the track messed with my feet. Felt like a hamster on a wheel. Challenging run though. |

First half is great. The second half of the course tours the industrial park district. Not enough water on the second half. Expo needs work. Wanted to purchase something but was unable to pay for it directly with the vendor. All transactions went through one big line. Put item back because line was 40 minutes long. Bet I wasn't the only one that did that.
Was not impressed with the RNR event. Overpriced and clearly geared toward half marathoners.
PR by 10 minutes though so I guess thats a bright side. Save your money and visit a different race.
Maniacs everywhere though. |
