31 Northwest Trail Runs Redmond Watershed 08/28/10 Redmond WA 3:53:56 Marathon 509 8/48 7/28 3/7 Temperatures started around 58° and rose to 67° during the race. There was one tough section of broken rock that almost seemed designed to twist ankles.
30 Light at the End of the Tunnel 07/25/10 North Bend WA 3:57:06 Marathon 39 14/61 14/44   It was a hot day with temperatures near 80 at the finish.
29 Rock 'n' Roll Seattle 06/26/10 Seattle WA 3:41:47 Marathon 3077 440/4080 353/2061 62/334 I don't like the course that much. I would prefer to see it go further up Aurora Ave. to avoid having to come down from the upper level of the viaduct and then go back up at the end. At least the weather wasn't too hot.
28 Green River Marathon 06/05/10 Seattle WA 3:44:10 Marathon 144 20/149 16/92   The Interurban Trail isn't very scenic, but at least it's flat. The weather was quite warm, but there was a nice breeze off the Puget Sound for the last few miles.
27 Capital City Marathon 05/16/10 Olympia WA 3:43:15 Marathon 371 80/370 68/224 10/32 There is pretty good crowd support considering how much of the race is through the countryside. It was warm and I had given blood 12 days previously. As such, I am quite happy with my time.
26 Tacoma City Marathon 05/02/10 Tacoma WA 3:36:40 Marathon 142 57/391 51/239 10/33
25 Northwest Trail Runs Redmond Watershed Preserve 03/28/10 Redmond WA 3:56:11 Marathon 410 7/47 7/31 1/8 This is a reasonable course for a trail run. The small park forces you to cover the same ground over and over, but it is quite flat for a trail run.
24 Seattle Marathon 11/29/09 Seattle WA 3:49:16 Marathon 758 478/1351   92/240 I had been sick that week, and it was harder to run than expected. At least the weather was reasonable.
23 Skagit Flats 09/13/09 Burlington WA 3:40:00 Marathon 42 41/220     It was too warm for a fast race, but there was good support.
22 Rock'N'Roll Seattle 06/27/09 Seattle WA 3:29:19 Marathon 2251 316/7500 268/2543 43/438 It was a bit warm, and I don't like the course. The rise up to the Alaskan Way Viaduct after mile 25 was not fun.
21 Light at the End of the Tunnel 06/14/09 North Bend WA 3:26:07 Marathon 210 7/53   2/10 I love the course. The views are good and it is perfect for negative splits. The downhill on the second half makes the race more fun.
20 Tacoma City 05/03/09 Tacoma WA 3:27:37 Marathon 72 31/271 24/166 7/38
19 Seattle Maration 11/30/08 Seattle WA 3:24:15 Marathon 683 183/2127 168/1356 24/191
18 Tacoma City 05/10/08 Tacoma WA 3:19:11 Marathon 2570 24/367     I had just moved to Washington State three days before the race. It was a good introduction to running in the Pacific Northwest.
17 Go! St. Louis 04/06/08 St. Louis MO 3:16:23 Marathon 19 82/1615 75/1048 9/142 The weather was nearly perfect for a marathon. The temperature was cool and the winds were light.
16 Lewis and Clark 09/16/07 St. Charles MO 3:32:57 Marathon 825 70/683 61/388 12/64 Dean Karnazas ran this races as his first of 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 days. (It was 49 days before the final race, the New York City Marathon.) I may not have been fast, but I still beat Dean Karnazas.
15 Spirit of St. Louis 04/15/07 St. Louis MO 3:15:37 Marathon 13 89/1854 84/1241 12/162 It was a good day and I felt confident all the way through. Attitude is everything.
14 Lewis and Clark 09/17/06 St. Charles MO 3:32:25 Marathon 3433 30/434 26/269 5/56 It was hot and humid. It was 79°F and raining at the finish.
13 Copenhagen Marathon 05/21/06 Copenhagen   3:20:08 Marathon 2017 480/4800   123 Copenhagen is too small for a full marathon, so the course makes two loops around the city. It is a great course and very flat. The support is great and is a good race for international marathon tourism.
12 Boston Marathon 04/17/06 Boston MA 3:22:21 Marathon 5820 4252/19688 3820/12063 2183/4402 It was my first attempt at Boston and I got conned into running fast by the early downhills. It came back to haunt me at the end of the race.
11 LaSalle Bank Chicago 10/09/05 Chicago IL 3:13:57 Marathon 3072 1668/33012 1509/18682 209/3449 I thought I could keep up with the 3:10 pace group, but I had to fall back towards the end. Even though, it was my best marathon run and it may stand as my PR.
10 Lewis and Clark 09/18/05 St. Charles MO 3:25:48 Marathon 118 34/453   8/60 It was 60°F at the start and 75° at the finish. It was humid with occasional rain. The flat course makes up for the weather.
9 Lewis and Clark 09/19/04 St. Charles MO 4:26:39 Marathon 2247 238/433   36/48 It was a slow race, but I had an excuse. 46 days before the race, I was run over by a car while jogging. I had a collapsed lung, 10 broken ribs and a significant loss of skin on my back. My doctors didn't allow me to run again until 6 days before the race, so I didn't have much chance to recover my endurance. The trauma physician told me that they almost lost me in the ER. I thought it was a good race considering I had been briefly dead seven weeks before.
8 Spirit of St. Louis 04/04/04 St. Louis MO 3:14:44 Marathon 545 80/1357 68/904 11/160 I never felt better in a race. I still felt good at 20 miles and realized that I had a chance of qualifying for Boston. I started passing people and running more confidently at the end. A few hundred yards from the finish line, I saw the clock and knew I could beat 3:15:00.
7 LasSalle Bank Chicago Marathon 10/12/03 Chicago IL 3:28:58 Marathon 2687 3675/32455 3173/18675 665/3467 This was my introduction to the big race. I had never run with so many people before.
6 Lewis and Clark 09/21/03 St. Charles MO 3:38:02 Marathon 2072 50/391   9/38 This was the old double-loop course on the Katy trail. The hill climbing the bluffs along Page Ave. is tough at miles 11 and 24, but it is hard to complian when the rest of the course is so flat.
5 Spirit of St. Louis 04/06/03 St. Louis MO 3:38:02 Marathon   67/823     The weather was awful with 20 mph winds, 35° temperature and rain.
4 Chicago 11/13/02 Chicago IL 3:21:25 Marathon   2876/31108     This is a huge race with a very flat course. Support is good, but you can miss the first few water stops because you can't see them through the crowd of runners.
3 Lewis and Clark 09/22/02 St. Charles MO 3:35:02 Marathon   55/383     This is a very flat two-loop course with one hill climbing up the bluffs over the Missouri River
2 Atlanta Marathon 11/22/01 Atlanta GA 4:11:59 Marathon   394/674     This was the 1996 Olympics Course. There are a lot of hills at the end.
1 Spirit of St. Louis 10/15/00 St. Louis MO 4:30:35 Marathon   642/952
