91 Flatlanders 07/11/10 Boone NC 6:43:41 50 km 227 3/3 2/2   RD, Matt Jenkins, made this an excellent event. Many Maniacs were among the 34 participants present for concurrent marathon and ultras. Flexible start times, water, sport drink, gels, no time limits, various distances, and all FREE! Who can ask for more? The flat, scenic, multi-loop, out-and back course is on paved pedestrian/bike trail allowing runners to see each other.
90 Niagara 50K 06/19/10 Niagara-on-the-Lake ON 6:47:59 50 km 27 151/159 114/116 38/40 Beautiful out-and-back course along Niagara River on paved pedestrian path turns around at the falls. Hooded sweat shirt w/o advertising. Post race food plentiful. Nice folks
89 Hatfield and McCoy 06/12/10 Williamson WV 5:23:51 Marathon 109 161/225 127/160 14/18 A fun and cordial event. Course was muddy in places making footing precarious from rain that lasted most of the day keeping it cooler. Large hills at miles 5 and 23 are daunting but otherwise the course is mostly gently rolling or flat. Free barbecue at finish was great. Besides a medal and shirt, finishers were awarded a small numbered plaque inside a Mason jar indicting finish place. Good skit the night before at the free pasta dinner wherein actors tell the story of the famous feud in the personas of family patriarchs.

87 Fredericton Marathon 05/09/10 Fredericton NB 4:59:50 Marathon 34 177/180 128/129 23/23 More than 30 minutes faster than last week but talented field put me near last. Cool (55F) breezy, and overcast. Rained for first 2 miles then mostly comfortable. At 40 km realized sub-5-hours was possible so pushed to make it with 10 seconds to spare. Race is well organized and supported. The town is great. Only 6 marathon starters from the USA. Most of the course is packed gravel along the edge of soothing beautiful riverbanks. Long-sleeved tech shirts given pre-registrants were sized too small. Otherwise a nice event.
86 New Jersey Marathon 05/02/10 Long Branch NJ 5:31:32 Marathon 1226 1105/1381 681/807 33/38 Who's idea was this? Tough day. For the 9AM start it was already too hot. I was walking by mile 2 and there were plenty of others doing likewise. I saw more runners down on the course than perhaps any my other marathons/ultras. Volunteers loaded one downed runner into the back of a police car when all the medics and ambulances were tied up. Paramedics had a busy day. I was VERY glad to finish at any speed since that was at least questionable by mile 6. Nice finisher's hat, medal, and technical shirt.
85 Croom Trail 50K I'm Not A Fool Run 04/03/10 Brooksville FL 7:20:53 50 km 126 53/68 34/44 5/7 Hot, humid, hilly, and difficult. Some soft sandy places. Glad to finish at any speed. Fell around mile 14 and again at 18. Bonked bad near 25 miles. Concurrent 50-mile Fools Run drew a high level field of tough and committed ultra runners.
84 Little Rock Marathon 03/07/10 Little Rock AR 4:47:08 Marathon 1012 850/1532 611/965 40/80 Great day with almost perfect weather: Cool with intermittent high overcast. Modest hills were mostly not a factor. Nice shirt and the largest finisher's medal I've ever seen. This was faster than my last several and fastest since last November. It was nice to see, and be with, many Marathon Maniacs and 50 State Marathon Club members during the weekend.
83 Gasparilla Marathon 02/28/10 Tampa FL 4:54:39 Marathon 19903 1489/2079 942/1232 56/85 This was the last offereing of this event and I'm sorry to see it go. It was a nice day for a run: sunny with temperatures of 40-60 degrees between the 6am start and my finish. There was a nice medal, shirt, and finisher's towel with race logo. Post-race meal was great with piaia, black beans & rice, chefs salad, and bread along with the usual bananas, etc. Tampa is a pretty city and the course led through several nice neighborhoods.
82 Five Points of Life Marathon 02/14/10 Gainesville FL 4:49:35 Marathon 318 111/147 87/108 9/11 About 20 minutes faster than two weeks ago. Cold start but warmed to mid 40s by finish. Sunny, clear, crisp day. Small event passed through U of FL football stadium, the theatre where I began acting, my former chemistry research lab from when I was in graduate school, and several historic Gainesville neighborhoods.
81 Ocala Marathon 01/31/10 Ocala FL 5:09:10 Marathon 34 96/116 63/73 7/7 Over half an hour faster than last marathon 3 weeks ago but that's not saying much. Gentle rolling hills throughout. Too many vehicles on road in the later hours.
80 Walt Disney World Marathon 01/10/10 Lake Buena Vista FL 5:41:48 Marathon 3528 11392/16883 6665/8731 317/458 Unusually cold 26 degrees at the start and never got above the 40s. Slick ice on ground at aid stations. My slowest marathon so far. Walked most of the way with I.V. line in my arm after being diagnosed with pneumonia earlier. Still had fun and maintained "Perfect 17" streak. Unremarkable white shirts were nearly identical for the past four years and it's time for a design and color change.
79 Jacksonville Bank Marathon 12/20/09 Jacksonville FL 4:51:26 Marathon 1086 611/750 416/478 23/33 Last ran this 1998. It was nice to be back. Cool clear weather and a lovely course. Several Maniacs present.

77 Route 66 Marathon 11/22/09 Tulsa OK 4:36:31 Marathon 50 698/1976 481/754 18/37 Great day. Nice people. A well-organized and fun urban event. Completes 50 states. Nice turquoise event shirt for all and quality tech shirt for "Finishers." Medals are huge and really cool.
76 ING Hartford Marathon 10/10/09 Hartford CT 4:07:50 Marathon 650 1003/2287 741/1379 41/89 Great weather and course. Fastest since Jan 09. Under 2 hours at half way but slowed significantly in late slightly hilly miles.
75 Turkey Swamp 50k 08/09/09 Freehold NJ 7:16:15 33.1 mi 513 54/58 39/41 8/9 Although advertised as "50k" the course was obviously incorrectly measured and was over 33 miles according to my Garmin GPS. Mostly flat and a little muddy (probably why it's called Turkey Swamp Park) Heat and humidity were factors but overcast attenuated that a bit.
74 Lone Ranger 24 Hour 07/18/09 Philiadelphia PA 24:00:00 67.7 mi 186 70/163 50/115   This well-supported, fun event is for a good charity and is run on a flat, scenic, multi-loop course through an urban park along a river. I'd gladly run this again and recommend it to anyone seeking a civilized ultra. Both mornings and overnight were pleasant weather but it does get hot in the afternoon the first day.
73 Utah Valley Marathon 06/13/09 Provo UT 4:36:19 Marathon 185 381/593 254/373 17/22 Mostly good event. Nice scenery & fair weather. Nearly all downhill or flat. 6AM start is at 5400 ft then drops 1000 ft over first 19 miles. Helpful volunteers on well-supported course. Packet pick-up slow and understaffed. Post race food sparse and uninteresting.
72 Sunburst Marathon 06/06/09 South Bend IN 4:25:24 Marathon 163 386/596 282/410 19/31 Nice event. Weather mostly good but a bit hot in later miles. Several minutes faster than the one two weeks ago. Cool finish on 50 yard line at Notre Dame stadium. Lots of Maniacs there in club colors.

70 Delaware Marathon 05/17/09 Wilmington DE 4:31:11 Marathon 382 346/531 253/362 17/32 A nice medium-sized event. The weather was pretty good. The double loop course passed through a lovely park some nice neighborhoods. The post-race food was good and plentiful even for slower runners.
69 Capon Valley 50K 05/09/09 Yellow Spring WV 7:29:07 50 km 134 109/125 72/83 11/12 The time says it all. I was glad to finish this hilly and difficult event at any speed. Many stream crossings and lots of mud. Course was well-marked The hosts and volunteers were wonderful and kind. Great post-race meal.
68 Cox Providence Marathon 05/03/09 Providence RI 4:37:17 Marathon 539 549/728 362/450 52/72 A few seconds faster than last weekend in Louisville and felt pretty good considering the "DNF" attempt at Muddy Marathon in NJ the day before. Bruised, sore, and tired from that misadventure but this Providence race was fun. The weather was great and I was satisfied to finish at any speed.
67 Kentucky Derby Festival Marathon 04/25/09 Louisville KY 4:37:38 Marathon 1074 521/1035 374/681 12/36 Fun but difficult themed event. Heat, humidity, and hills. Who could ask for anything more? A lap through Churchill Downs and a late mile into Indiana cross the river made the course interesting. Great crowd support and volunteers.

Huge medal is heaviest of my collection. Shirt unremarkable. Weather nearly ideal. Faster 2nd half. Never bonked or faded.
